Lorac Mega Pro Palette 3 Review & Swatches

The Lorac Mega Pro 3 ($59) launches tomorrow, October 2 exclusively at Ulta.com and I was so excited to get my hands on it early when it was available for Ulta Platinum Members last week. I own several Lorac palettes, but have never owned one of the Mega Pro palettes...they always sell out before I can grab one and since they're limited edition, they're gone forever once inventory runs out.

Lorac Refined Romance Palette Review & Swatches

I got my Nordstrom Anniversary Sale haul this week, and believe it or not, I only bought one beauty product...the Lorac Refined Romance Palette ($18). There are a lot of great beauty deals to be had, but I blew the majority of my budget on my wardrobe...there are SO many cute fall clothes and shoes out right now (and fall is my favorite season to buy clothes, hands down). Still, if I had to buy one beauty item, I'm so glad I chose this...at $18, it's a steal! 

Let's take a look...

The packaging is beautiful with floral artwork that reminds me a lot of Nest fragrances...it's very different from the plain, solid-colored packaging of the Pro and Unzipped palettes. It also doesn't have that soft, rubbery finish on the outside that the Pro palettes have...it's more of a glossy cardboard. Inside, there's a full-size mirror, six eyeshadows, two highlighters, and a blush.

The palette doesn't have the shade names written on it anywhere, but according to the Nordstrom website, the shades are as follows:

Eyeshadows:

• Ivory Shimmer
• Gold Shimmer
• Burgundy/Brown Shimmer
• Light Rose/Taupe Matte
• Light Purple Shimmer
• Burgundy/Brown Matte

Face Powders: 

• Cream Shimmer
• Light Pink Shimmer
• Rose Matte Blush

The palette is the same size as the Pro Palettes, but contains fewer shades (the Pro palettes have 16 eyeshadows) so the pans are larger. There are four shimmer eyeshadows and two mattes. The two highlighters are shimmery (but not chunky) and the rosy blush is a beautiful matte shade.

I want to mention that this palette is made in China and in the past, they haven't been the same standard of quality as the US-made Lorac palettes. However, this one is everything I would expect from Lorac...the shades are highly pigmented, soft and easy to pick up. They go on beautifully and I really feel like you're getting a $40+ palette for $18.

These swatches are on bare skin, no primer and the matte shades are as intense and pigmented as the shimmer shades. 

Overall, the Lorac Refined Romance palette is a steal at $18. I have so many eyeshadow palettes and have been gravitating toward face palettes lately so that I can have more shades at hand either while I'm traveling, or when I don't have a lot of time to get ready in the morning and don't want to have to think too hard about what blush to pair with my eyeshadows.

This is a limited edition, Nordstrom exclusive so don't wait if you're thinking about getting this one. It's definitely worth the money and will take you from the summer right into the fall/winter season with beautiful neutral shades.

Lorac Pro Palette 3 Review & Swatches

The Lorac PRO 3 Eyeshadow Palette ($44) is brand new for Summer 2016 and will be available online at Ulta.com on June 12th and Ulta stores on June 26th (I got mine over Memorial Day weekend when they offered it to Platinum Members early). Other stores (Kohls, Nordstrom, etc. will be getting it sometime in July). If you're a fan of Lorac's eyeshadows like I am, then keep reading for my review...I'll also compare this to a few other Lorac palettes I have later on in the post.

Packaging: 

Like the other Lorac PRO Palettes, PRO 3 comes in a box with a mini tube Behind the Scenes eyeshadow primer. The palette itself is identical to PRO 1 & 2 except for its color which is a beautiful creamy shade. Like the others, it's very lightweight and travel-friendly with a magnetic closure. The soft, rubbery outside is a fingerprint magnet but this one doesn't seem to show them as badly as the darker-colored previous versions.

Formula: 

The formula is gorgeous, as always...smooth, buttery and highly pigmented. These shadows blend like a dream and go on vibrantly, even without primer. The only shade I had a little trouble with in terms of patchiness was Truffle, which is a deep gray shimmer. The lighter matte shades like Blanc and Canvas didn't show up well on my skin, but I'm not sure if it's because they're more sheer, or because they're so close to my own skin color that there's no contrast.
Also, they do kick up quite a bit of fallout, as Lorac's super soft formula tends to do, but it doesn't mean that they feel dry or chalky...quite the opposite! They actually go on very silky, just make sure you tap your brush well before applying to prevent them from falling down onto your cheeks.

Regardless, if you're familiar with and like Lorac's formula you definitely won't be disappointed in this one.

Color Selection: 

This is very much a Nude palette, and is a gorgeous option for those of you who prefer an "everyday" look over bolder shades. I know that Nude palettes have already had their moment, but I'm still glad that Lorac finally made a PRO version because these are my favorite eyeshadows to work with and this palette is full of shades I will wear every day. There isn't one in this entire palette that I won't use and I'm rarely able to say that.
Like the other PRO palettes, this one has 8 matte and 8 shimmer shades in both cool and warm tones so you have a lot of versatility here!

Cons: 

There's only one con with this palette, and it goes for all of the PRO palettes, not just this one. The pans are on the smaller side and the formula does kick up a bit when you dip your brush in, resulting in a very messy-looking interior. 

In the photo below, I only swatched the top row and you can see how the color smears all around each pan. I'll be honest, it's a pain in the neck to keep clean, especially since it's such a light color. So if that's your pet peeve, I just wanted to warn you ahead of time!

PRO 3 vs. Unzipped Gold: 

The overall shade range in the PRO 3 reminded me a bit of Unzipped Gold, so I wanted to photograph them side-by-side and swatch them to see if there were any dupes. I swatched the shades I thought looked very close in the pan but as you'll see below in the swatches, there are no 100% dupes here.

I didn't find any similar shades in the PRO Matte palette, but there were a few in the PRO 2 palette that looked like they were close. Once again, no true dupes!

Overall, whether you're a LORAC fan or a fan of everyday nude eyeshadows, I think you'll love the PRO 3 palette! I'm a fan of both and I know I'll use this palette all the time.

Lorac Pro To Go Palette | Review & Swatches

When the warm weather hits, I start daydreaming about vacation and thinking about what I'm going to pack. I start mentally planning outfits (I'm a bit of a nerd that way), start shopping for bathing suits (never a fun task), and start weeding through my makeup trying to decide which products I can bring that won't take up a ton of room. As a rule, I cut back on the amount of makeup I wear in the summer and I like products that are a bit more multi-purpose. I also love a good face palette, so when I saw the Lorac Pro to Go ($38) at my local Kohls, I grabbed it...especially since it was the last one and I didn't want to miss out on having this for my upcoming trips.

So is it worth the $38? Keep on reading for my review & swatches!

Lorac PRO to Go comes in a cardboard compact with a soft rubberized finish...yes the kind that shows every speck of dirt, smudges, and fingerprints. Ugh...it's such a pet peeve of mine when my makeup looks dirty but I do appreciate how sturdy this feels and the soft texture means it won't crack or break during travel. The magnets that hold it together are also very strong and secure.

It's a small palette but it's not slim...it's actually a bit on the chunky side. But I've found that with face palettes that include a lot of different products, you either get a skinny palette that's very large and flat, or you can get a smaller, more compact-sized palette that's thicker. It really just depends on your preference and how you're planning to pack/store it.

If you open the top of the PRO to Go palette, you'll see six eyeshadows and a small eyeshadow brush.
Then, if you open the bottom of the palette, there are two blushes, a bronzer and another small brush that's angled, perfect for eyeliner.

You can just open one side at a time, or open the entire thing and then it looks like this...

The six eyeshadows that come in this palette are all your go-to neutral shades, with three shimmer shades in the top row and three mattes on the bottom row. There's a lot of versatility here, because the eyeshadows can be used wet or dry, making it easy to use the darker shades as liners (she even includes the angled brush). Also, the highlight shades come in larger pans and you can definitely use them on your face as well. I've found that Pearl makes a gorgeous highlight for your cheekbones and Shell is a great undereye setting powder for my light skin, due to the slightly yellow tone it has. 

The pigmentation is nothing less than I've come to expect from Lorac...they're intense, buttery, and go on super smooth. The swatches below are one swipe of each shade (except the black which needed two swipes) on bare skin with no primer. They're stunning aren't they?

In the bottom of the compact, you get two blushes, Coral which is slightly shimmery (but not overly so) and a matte Pink. The Bronze shade is also matte and I've found it to be a little bit dark for my skintone....it would probably work best on those with a more medium complexion. Still, I have been able to sheer it out a bit and use it as a blush so all is not completely lost.

Overall, I'm really impressed with this palette (although I'm not surprised since it is Lorac!). I can pretty much get away with bringing this (plus foundation, mascara and a lip product) with me when I travel, since it not only includes eyeshadows and blushes, but also liners and highlighters too. I also love how it includes such wearable shades that would work for just about everybody (minus the bronzer). Every shade in this palette is beautifully pigmented as well, so it's totally worth the $38 in my opinion!

Lorac Unzipped Cheek Palette Only $16.25 at Ulta- TODAY ONLY

I literally just purchased the Lorac Unzipped Cheek Palette a few weeks ago (see my review here) and now it's on sale at Ulta.com for $16.25. Ugh, don't you HATE when that happens?? 

Oh well, it was totally worth the full price anyway, so I can't complain too much.

Lorac Unzipped Cheek Palette Review & Swatches

The Lorac Unzipped Cheek Palette ($25 at Ulta.com) was released last year and it's been sitting in my Ulta cart for quite a while. Well, I finally pulled the trigger last week because so many of you guys raved about it after my "What's in my cart at Ulta" post. Since I've only had it for a few days, this will be more of a first impression post than a review but as many of you already know, this palette is worth the hype. It's an Ulta exclusive and is only available online. Let's take a look!

The Unzipped Cheek Palette is packaged in a soft cardboard case with a magnetic closure. It's slim, not too large or bulky and perfect for travel. It also comes with a nice large mirror inside and there are four blush shades...two matte and two shimmer.

• Underrated is a warm medium pink with a matte finish.
• Unashamed is a bright cool-toned pink with a matte finish.
• Unapologetic is a medium rosy brown with a golden sheen.
• Unimaginable is a light peachy pink with a shimmery finish. 

Every shade is intensely pigmented, soft, and easy to pick up. I've found myself tapping my brush a lot to make sure I don't go overboard, particularly with the darker shades Unashamed and Unapologetic. Still, they blend so nicely and have a long wear time...about 7-8 hours. They also mix well with each other so you can really play with a few shades at a time. Yesterday I tried wearing Unashamed and I love the cool tone that it has but it was a little bit bright for daytime wear so I toned it down with Underrated on top and it looked gorgeous. The day before, I layered Unimaginable over Unapologetic to add a little more pink to a mostly bronzy shade. So there are a lot of combinations with this palette. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to take pictures of me wearing these shades, but I'll try to add those to this post as soon as I can. My little guy has been sick all week so it's been hard to get a lot of blogging done.

Overall, if you're a blush palette hoarder like I am, you need this one for your collection! I'm digging these shades for Spring and Summer and this will be a nice little palette to travel with.

Lorac Light Source Illuminating Highlighter Review & Swatches

Hey everybody, how's your weekend going so far? Got any big plans?  I'm so excited to bring you a review and swatches of the brand new Lorac Light Source Illuminating Highlighters ($22) that are launching "officially" tomorrow at Ulta.com! I say "officially" in quotes because that's their launch date, but they've been showing up and then disappearing from the Ulta website over the past few days and I was able to snag them mid-week before they disappeared again. It looks like they're live now but don't kill me if the links don't work until tomorrow! :)

I picked up two of the four shades and I chose the lightest colors Starlight and Moonlight since I have fair skin. When Lorac first previewed these on Instagram, they looked really light but then when I saw them on the Ulta website, they looked much darker. I assumed Lorac had overexposed their photo a bit, but it turns out that photo was more accurate than the Ulta Website (and I'm glad!). When you're as fair as I am, it's hard to find highlighters that are light enough but these both worked out nicely for me. 

I  took all of my photos in natural lighting and holding up the real product next to my screen, they look exactly the same so hopefully you can get a good representation of what they actually look like in this post. Let's take a look!

Starlight is described as a white opal shade, but not it's not actually white-white like Becca's White Pearl...it has a golden sheen and is like a lighter version of The Balm's Mary Lou-Manizer. It really pops nicely on my pale skin and the shimmer is so super smooth and refined. There's no obvious sparkle, just a beautiful pearlescent glow.

I can't get over how smooth these are and this one gives the prettiest lit-from-within glow that gives the effect of candlelight on your face. Overall, the Lorac Light Source Illuminating Highlighters get two thumbs up from me. They have the perfect amount of sheen and high pigment that shows up nicely on the skin...yet they're very refined and not too glittery for a naturally glowy look. Knowing Lorac's high quality eyeshadows and blushes, I had a feeling these would be amazing and they didn't let me down.

Lorac Color Source Buildable Blush Review & Swatches

On a recent trip to Kohls, I picked up a few of the new Lorac Color Source Buildable Blushes ($22). You guys probably know from reading my blog that Lorac's Pro eyeshadows are one of my absolute favorite formulas, but I've never tried Lorac blushes before so I figured it was about time! Let's take a closer look...

Description: LORAC brings you cheek color that will stay with a silky-smooth matte finish and it's called Color Source Buildable Blush.

Price/Where to Buy: $22 at Kohls, and Ulta. 

Quick Verdict: An amazing blush and a must-buy...but there is a pretty close dupe. More on that below.

Color Source Buildable Blush comes packaged in a cute little box with a circular cutout so you can see the shade inside. They contain antioxidants such as Pomegranate, Acai, and Vitamins A, C, & E and are paraben-free. Also, it's worth noting that the box itself is actually safety sealed which is a really nice touch for those of us who want to make sure the products we're buying are tamper-free.

The compacts they come in are beautiful...they're mirrored gunmetal with a sleek magnetic closure. Maybe I'm a weirdo but I love how they click shut...it's so satisfying! The magnet that holds the compacts together is so strong that it feels just as secure as a compact that clicks shut with a latch closure. On the back of each compact there's a label that's the same color as the blush itself with the name of the shade in large bold letters. I really like how they designed it because it makes it really easy to know which one you're grabbing out of a drawer if they're flipped upside down.

Chroma is described as a "satin berry" shade, and it looks a lot lighter in person than it does on the Ulta and Kohls websites. That being said it is a beautiful pink-berry shade that gives my cheeks a warm rosy flush.

Technicolor is described as a matte coral shade and is probably my favorite, especially going into Spring and Summer. It gives such a beautiful peachy glow to my cheeks that's warmed up with just a hint of pink.

I fell in love with these blushes at first swatch. It's like Lorac took their Pro eyeshadow formula and made blushes with it! It's soft, creamy and highly pigmented. In fact, I'm surprised that they call these "buildable" blushes because to me, that would indicate that they go on sheer and can be built up. However, just the tiniest dip into the pan coats your brush with quite a bit of product and you actually have to be careful not to overdo it.
I just love how the silky smooth formula blends seamlessly into my skin, and the color you see in the pan is what you get. The one downside (other than the price) is that they do kick up quite a bit of powder when you swirl your brush into them.

As I was playing with these, I realized that they reminded me of another blush formula I know and love...and it costs less than 1/4 of the price...the City Color Be Matte Blushes. They're $4.99 and have been my holy grail drugstore blush for quite a while now. They have a very similar look and feel (minus the beautiful gunmetal packaging) and you actually get more product...they're .314 oz. compared to .14 oz. you're getting with the Lorac Color Source. 

They have a similar silky smooth texture and even kick up a similar amount of powder. They're also pretty much on par as far as pigmentation goes. In fact, the only thing the Lorac ones have over the City Color Be Mattes is that they're a bit creamier feeling and pick up just a little easier. But it's such a slight difference it's hard to tell.

You can see by the swatches that the City Color blushes are just as pigmented. Blackberry looks lighter because the shade itself is actually a little lighter but it was the closest one I had to Chroma. City Color's Guava is very close to Technicolor, leaning only a little more pink. Both formulas last a good 6-7 hours on me before fading, likely because they're so pigmented they actually stain your cheeks a little bit.

Overall, I'm completely in love with the new Lorac Color Source Buildable Blushes...everything about them is on point from the packaging to the shades to the amazing formula. But I have to wonder if they're worth the hefty $22 price tag when there's a really close dupe in the City Color Be Matte Blushes. I'll leave it to you to decide whether the beautiful packaging, slightly creamier formula and different shade range is enough to make splurging on these worthwhile!
