Beauty Box 5 January 2015 Unboxing and Review

PR Sample

My Beauty Box 5 arrived a few days ago and it's my first one of the new year! If you're new to BB5, it's a monthly beauty subscription box. You get 5 deluxe samples that can include makeup, skincare, haircare, nail products, accessories, or fragrance for $12 a month. So let's see what I got this month!

One thing I love about Beauty Box 5 is that they usually send a nice mix of different types of beauty products, rather than all makeup or all skincare.  This month's box was definitely diverse...it had a little bit of everything.

Beauty Box 5 December 2014 Review and Unboxing

I got my Beauty Box 5 in the mail this week and I was excited as always, to see what was inside.  For those of you who don't know about Beauty Box 5, it's a monthly beauty subscription box that gives you 5 curated beauty samples for $12 a month (or $8.25 a month if you sign up for a 1 year subscription!).

The first product in the box is Lucky #6 by Lucky Brand.  I love their jeans, but I'm not head-over-heels for this fragrance, which is described as lotus, tiger lily, cashmere woods and jasmine.  It kind of smells old-lady to me- floral and a bit powdery. I feel like fragrance is very hit or miss in a subscription box because of the personal nature of it.  I don't find this scent offensive in any way, it's just not for me.

Body Drench Lip Drench (full size $4.99) is a nice lip balm that's pomegranate scented.  It contains Vitamin E and other moisturizing ingredients and feels moisturizing on the lips.  It's not super exciting but you can never have too many lip balms, especially in the winter!

Beauty Box 5 July 2014 Unboxing

As always, I was happy to see my Beauty Box 5 arrive in the mail today.  For those of you who might be new to Beauty Box 5, they're a monthly beauty sample subscription service that offers 5 deluxe samples for $12 a month.

This month's theme is "defining moments"...those big or small events that made you who you are today.
The first product I already knew was going to be in the box and was my spoiler earlier in the month.  It's a full-sized Revlon's Bold Lacquer by Grow Luscious Mascara ($7.99). I already have this mascara and use it all the time- it gives great length and volume and a healthy sheen to the lashes.  I actually posted a review of this a few months ago, but it seems to have been accidentally deleted from my blog, so I'll have to post another one soon.
Next is a Full Sized Starlooks Lip Liner in Bare ($12).  I wasn't sure about this one at first...I'm not really a lip liner person to begin with and then when I opened this it looked brown and I thought, "I'm never going to use this." But then I swatched it and it's actually a really pretty pinky nude shade.  So rather than use it as just a liner, I put on some lip balm for hydration, then lined and totally filled in my lips with this.  It looked like a really pretty nude lipstick- it was matte and lasted a long time. Ok, so I'll probably use this after all!

Next is Hask Argan Oil Intense Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment ($2.49).  This packet is a really generous size and will be at least 2 treatments for my long hair.  I can't wait to try this- the description says that this restores damaged hair and the results last two weeks!
Next is a full sized Body Drench Candy Licious Lip Balm in Lemon Drop ($3.99). This lip balm is packed with lip-loving ingredients like beeswax, coconut oil and Vitamin E, plus it smells like candy! Lemon scented products can be tricky and sometimes they end up smelling like Pledge or floor cleaners, but thankfully this one smells just like it's name- it's sweet and fruity and makes me want to lick my lips all day. The balm itself isn't glossy or too soft- it's a true lip balm that stays put to lock in the hydration.  My lips felt soothed and hydrated when I wore this today.
The last product is a deluxe sample of Anna Naturals Glowing Mama Face and Body Scrub ($10.99 for 4 oz). This vegan formula has no parabens, harsh chemicals or artificial fragrances.  It smells lemony and exfoliates nicely without leaving an oil slick behind like some scrubs do.

Overall, this month's box was valued at $26.47 not including the Glowing Mama scrub- it doesn't have a size on it anywhere so I'm not sure how much is in the sample jar.  Once again, I'll use eveything in this box!  My favorite thing about Beauty Box 5 is the balance of products that are in the box.  You always get a good mix of makeup, hair and skincare products.  This month there were 3 full sized products also, which was a nice surprise!

Beauty Box 5 May 2014 Reveal

It's that time again, where all my subscription boxes are starting to arrive. I just got my Beauty Box 5 and it might very well be my favorite one so far this month...take a look!
For those who are unfamiliar with Beauty Box 5, its a monthly subscription box that contains 5 beauty samples for $12 a month.
First is Ban's (the deodorant company) Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths. I got 3 of them (they normally come 10 in a pack for $2.97). These cloths are meant for your whole body and you just open one up and give yourself a quick once-over after the gym or if you're going somewhere after work and need to freshen up. They're so perfect for summer because they're cooling and leave your skin with a powdery soft finish so you won't feel all sweaty and gross on a sweltering hot day. I had never heard of these before but will definitely be buying more when these run out...they're cheap too!
I'm still loving the H2O+ hand cream I got in last month's Beauty Box 5, so much so that I bought the full size at Kohls the other day! So I was super excited to get another product from them in this month's box. This Marine cleansing gel is supposed to gently exfoliate and protect skin from free radicals and environmental damage. It contains sea salt and marine botanicals. Sounds nice and I can't wait to try it! This is a sample size but the full size retails for $18.
This Cattiva Eye Pencil is waterproof and retractable (no sharpening-yay!). I've never heard of this brand before but I swatched this liner on my hand and it has a smooth glide and didn't budge! Waterproof liners are so essential when the weather gets warm so I'm really happy to have this. It's a full size, worth $20!
This next sample I am particularly excited about...its Harvey Prince's Hello Perfume. I've been wanting to try this ever since they talked about it in the Birchbox sneek peek video a few months ago. It sounded amazing and the reviews are really good, so I was all excited and didn't end up getting it in my Birchbox...bummer! But Beauty Box 5 included it this month, so thank you, thank you! This is my new summer perfume! I have already ordered a full size because I love it so much. Hello is such a fitting name because it just greets you with a smile when you spray it on and makes you feel happy. The description says it has Meyer Lemon and Grapefruit at the top, then Forsythia and Plumeria so basically a citrus floral, but that's not what I get from it at all! Floral scents typically give me a headache and citrus smell too clean and tart most of the time. I do smell them in here but this perfume has a warmth that I never expected and I love warm scents...coconut, vanilla, sandalwood etc. I never thought I would like a floral but this has a sweetness and warmth that's still fresh at the same time- perfect for summer. It's the one I've been waiting for!
Finally, I got a Hydrating Sheet Mask from Masker Aide (cute name!). This one is called Pre Party Prep and is supposed to Brighten, Prime, and Energize the skin, all with the convenience of a sheet and no mess. I've never tried a sheet mask so I'm excited to have the opportunity.

Overall, I love everything in my Beauty Box 5 this month! I got to try some things I've never tried before, found my new signature scent, and got a full sized staple product that I know I'll be using this summer.

Beauty Box 5 April 2014 Review and Reveal

It's that time again, when all of my subscription boxes start arriving!  I got my Beauty Box 5 over the weekend, and I wanted to share what I got...check it out.

First up is BH Cosmetics California Eyeshadow Palette in Hollywood, San Francisco, and Malibu-The purple shade isn't one that I'd wear everyday, but it's definitely pretty.  The other two are great for everyday!

Blum Naturals All Purpose Cleansing Wipes in Citrus- This is a travel sized container with a keychain attached for easy on-the-go portability.  There are actually 30 wipes in there, so it should last a while!  I love that these are safe for babies too, because it'll definitely come in handy when I'm out with my 10 month old.

Bonnie Bell Lip Definer in Boysenberry- This was my least favorite product in this month's box.  I don't use lip liners, and the color is darker than what I'd normally wear, even if I did wear lip liner.

NickaK New York Hydro Lipstick- This lipstick is awesome! It feels lightweight but is super pigmented and creamy- full of moisture.  The only problem is the color- I'm not a red lipstick person.  But I would definitely pick this up in a different shade because I really love the formula.

Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer 3 Day Sample- This is a great way to try Natural Glow and it's in 3 separate convenient packs.  I love Jergens Natural Glow because last year they changed the formula so that it doesn't give off that Self-Tanner odor and it really doesn't!  I was skeptical because a lot of them smell good upon application, but I wake up smelling a funky yeasty smell.  Not with this- its the best!

Overall, I liked this month's Beauty Box 5! If you're not familiar with it, this box costs $12 per month for 5 samples (and some full sizes too!).

*Disclosure-These samples were sent to me for a review by a PR company or brand and in no way influenced my opinion of the product.

Beauty Box 5 March 2014 Reveal

I got my Beauty Box 5 today, and I'm excited because I'm so happy with everything I got! For those of you who aren't familiar with Beauty Box 5, it's a monthly subscription service that offers 5 samples for $12 a month.  Take a look at what was included for March...

Swissco Dual-Sided Facial Pad- $2 Retail
This cleansing pad is really cool- I've never seen these in the stores, but it has a soft terrycloth side for cleansing and a loofah side for exfoliating.

H2O+ Targeted Care Hand and Nail Cream 1 oz. Deluxe Sample $2.50 (Full Size 6oz. $15).
This hand cream is amazing!  I tried it as soon as I opened the box because my hands are always dry and chapped and this made my hands feel velvety soft and not greasy at all.  My skin just drank it up and they stayed soft even after washing.  I'll definitely get the full size of this once my sample is gone.

Jane's Pick All Natural Handmade Bar Soap Sample ($8 for 5oz. bar).
I can't wait to try this...it smells wonderful through the package.  I'm not sure what scent it is, since it doesn't list it on the package but I love all natural soaps and my husband does too (so he was super excited to see this believe it or not).

Tree Hut Shea Body Butter Coconut Lime 2oz. $2.14 (Full Size is $7.49 for 7oz.).
Ahh, Tree Hut!  I love their scrubs and I've been using their Hawaiian Kukui Body Wash in my shower this week, so this is a welcome addition.  I've never tried the Coconut Lime scent (and I'm not sure why since I'm a sucker for Coconut anything) but this smells amazing and I can't wait to use this after my shower tomorrow.

Bellapierre Makeup Base $18.99 for .29 oz (Full Size!)
This was the spoiler I told you about a few weeks ago!  This is a concealer/eyeshadow primer.  I swatched it on my hand and it's the perfect color for me.  I'm excited to see how this conceals and also how it works as a base.  It feels really smooth when I apply it and doesn't seem to be drying or cakey which is a good thing!

All together, this month's Beauty Box 5 had $25.63 worth of products, not counting the soap, since I don't know how many oz. it is and couldn't really calculate it's value.  The best part is that I'll use each and every one of these products which doesn't usually happen with subscription boxes.  There's always one or two things I won't use.

Beauty Box 5 Review Team

I'm super excited to announce that I've been selected to be on the Beauty Box 5 review team! This means that I'll be reviewing each month's box right here on the Budget Beauty Blog.  For those who don't know,  Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription box service that costs $12 per month (see my review here).

I just got advance notice that March's box will include BellaPierre's Makeup Base Primer,  worth $18.99, which is already more than the cost of the box!
This eye shadow primer can also be used as a concealer or to take shimmer shadows and turn them matte.

To get March's box, you have to sign up by Feb 28th! To register, head over to www.beautybox5.com . Stay tuned for my review in the coming weeks!

Beauty Box 5 January 2014 Reveal and Unboxing

I've been reviewing more and more subscription boxes lately, and I love them because for a small monthly cost, you get to try so many great products that you may never have tried, plus it's always fun to be surprised each month.  I've found that the majority of them also give you way more product than you're paying for, which makes them a budget-friendly way to try the latest and greatest in beauty.

I was recently so excited to have the opportunity to try Beauty Box 5 for the first time.  This service is $12 a month, or if you buy 3 months, it's $30, or a yearly subscription is $99, so you can save quite a bit by signing up for more than a month at a time.

So, ready to see what I got? Here we go!

H2O+ Sea Lotus Body Wash 1oz..  The full 12.5oz size retails for $18.50.  This body wash smells fantastic- like a spa!  I can't wait to use this in the shower tomorrow with my new gloves, which brings me to....

Swissco Exfoliating Gloves.   So much easier than a shower pouf- just wear these gloves, add soap and rub them together to lather.  They have just the right amount of roughness to take off the dead skin, but are gentle enough to use daily.  These will be perfect for when I start self-tanning this Spring.

Nubar Cuticle and Nail Oil .  Full size is .5oz for $10.  This winter has done a number on my hands, so my cuticles can really use this.  With a new baby around, I'm not able to go out and get manicures much, so being able to do it myself is a must!

Jergens Daily Moisturizer .  Full size is $6.99 for 21 oz.  This is a great moisturizer and the perfect size to stick in my purse.

Epic Blend Hemp Coconut Lip Balm- (Full Size- $3.50).  This brand is from Canada, and I hadn't heard of them before.  But this lip balm is awesome!  The coconut scent is delicious and reminds me of summer.  Usually I expect lip balms in a tube to be somewhat hard and waxy, but this one just melted right into my lips, and was so soft.  Love!

That Awkward Moment Compact Mirror- "That Awkward Moment" is a new movie starring Zac Efron that actually comes out today.  This mirror is really slim but has a nice sized mirror- perfect for my purse, or if I'm out it'll still fit in a clutch.

Overall, I really liked my Beauty Box 5!  I got some great new products to try.

Have you tried Beauty Box 5?  What do you think?
