Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix Review

Several weeks ago, I posted some photos from Bed, Bath and Beyond of new Revlon products that have just been released for Spring 2015. I haven't seen them in the regular drugstores just yet, but they'll probably be hitting any day now.

One of the first things I spotted that I had to get my hands on was Insta-Fix, a foundation stick from the Photoready line ($11.49).  As a new mom, I don't always have a lot the time to apply foundation at my bathroom vanity with a brush or blending sponge (mainly just on the weekends). More often than not, I'm trying to apply it quickly with my fingers in the car mirror in my driveway as I'm about to go somewhere and I always keep travel sized tubes and bottles in my purse.  That's why a foundation stick is something I can definitely get behind!
The display said that this is "Multi-Use Makeup" and can be used for "all over perfection, concealing flaws, and touch ups on the go." They're formulated with super-refined pigments and unique light- filtering technology to give skin a retouched look with each use. Sounds perfect!  Let's see how it worked for me...

There are 9 shades in all and as you can see from my photo below, the shade range doesn't go very dark.  The darkest shade is caramel, which is more of a medium shade. Unfortunately, women of color probably won't find a match here, which is really disappointing.

I chose the shade Shell 130, which is the third lightest shade.  It seems to match my skin pretty well, although it leans yellow and my skin has pink undertones.  It's always a struggle for me to find foundation shades that are pink-based unless I choose the absolute lightest shade which would be too pale for me.

Insta-fix comes in a standard twist-up tube that's typical of stick foundations. I'm really loving the formula...it has a semi-matte finish and it's super soft.  It just melts into the skin and blends seamlessly without settling into lines or pores.
The coverage is on the lighter side, but it's buildable.  It covers minor redness and undereye circles and evens things out, but your skin still shows through so it looks very natural.  I've used it as an overall foundation, a concealer, and for touch-ups and I have to say that my favorite way to use this is to cover imperfections before applying my foundation.  I use it under my eyes, around my nose and on my chin to add a subtle layer of coverage and then I apply my foundation on top.  It's lighter than the average concealer so it never gets cakey and evens out my skintone so that once I apply foundation, it covers everything.  I also love it for touch-ups and I've used it late in the day to keep my skin looking flawless.  It's so creamy and glides right on top of foundation with no problems.  It's really so easy to use.
You can use this as an overall foundation, but I find the coverage to be too light for me most days.

Here's a swatch of shade 130 Shell on my skin.  It's a bit yellow for me, but it blends out seamlessly and since it's sheer, it's pretty forgiving if it's not an exact color match.
Overall, Revlon Photoready Insta-Fix is an amazing multi-tasker and although it's not ideal as a full-on foundation for my dry skin (I prefer more moisturizing creams and liquids) it will work just fine in a pinch, and is fantastic for touch-ups or as a concealer under foundation.
Normal to oily skins might really like this as a foundation due to the semi-matte finish.

Have you seen this in stores yet?  Tried it?  Want to?

  1. I love that this stick isn't a full on matte finishs. It is perfect for my mildly oily skin. It also covers some redness on my cheeks very well. I use this under my regular photo ready foundation and it's a match made in heaven! Definitely recommend to anyone looking for light coverage going into summer
