Lorac Alter Ego Goddess Lip Gloss Review and Swatches

Lorac Alter Ego Lip Gloss ($16 at Ulta) was recently launched as part of their Summer 2015 collection and I had to try one, especially when I saw the beautiful mauve-y purple shade Goddess. Let's take a look...

Alter Ego Lip Gloss claims to give you highly pigmented, glossy color with a soft vanilla scent. They come in a round, clear tube with a gunmetal colored cap. The doe foot applicator is flat which I find helpful when applying the gloss to my lips...it covers them with a nice even coat.

Right away, I'll say that this formula is one of my favorite lip gloss formulas ever. I was just recently thinking about how lip glosses used to be so shiny and lately it seems like shine has taken a backseat to pigment. I've purchased several "glosses" lately that seemed more like liquid lipsticks, and I was like, where's the shine?? Well I'm happy to say that this one delivers the best of both worlds...rich, opaque pigment with a mirror-like glassy finish, plus no stickiness at all! It feels so smooth and hydrating on the lips and the yummy vanilla scent is subtle and not overpowering.

Goddess is a beautiful mauve-y purple shade and I've been wearing it so much lately. You can see in these swatches how glassy and shiny it is!

On my lips, this shade has a little more pink in it, thanks to a hint of my natural lip color showing through. I actually don't mind since it warms the color up a little and keeps me from looking washed out. I'm so pale naturally that very cool shades can look harsh.

As I was going through my lip gloss collection, I came across my L'oreal Extraordinaire by Colour Riche in Purple Prelude 403. The formulas are very similar...glossy, lacquer-like finish and a non-sticky moisturizing texture.

When swatched, they're very close...the Lorac Goddess is on the left, L'oreal Purple Prelude on the right. The L'oreal has a little more pink in it and isn't quite as pigmented, but it's a great alternative if you're looking for a more affordable mauve-y purple.

Overall, I am so glad I found Lorac's Alter Ego lip gloss! It's such a beautiful formula and I'm in love with this shade. I am definitely heading back to Kohls this week to pick up another shade or two.

  1. That is the most beautiful shade, wow. I've been hearing so much about Goddess from vloggers on YouTube and on other blogs everyone seems to love it. I've been back and forth about getting it. But your swatches have finally sealed the deal- its gorgeous! And it looks really pretty on you too, definitely your color!

  3. Just found your blog. I don't know how I missed it all these years but I was googling this gloss and there you were. I've been reading a lot of your posts and I'm really loving it! I love the mix of drugstore and high end because I, like I'm sure many others, don't just buy all drugstore or all high end. It's perfect, keep it up!

  5. Yes, gorgeous color! And thanks for the L'oreal comparison. I never looked twice at the Colour Riche glosses but recently got two great mauvey/mlbb colors in beauty boxes. I love them both, it's a really nice formula. I'll have to keep Goddess on my radar.

    1. Hi Angel, same here! I just recently discovered the Colour Rich Extraordinaire after searching for Mauve and Purple shades. I can't believe I had never tried it because it's such a great product. I definitely want to pick up some more shades.

I was hoping it would be a Lime Crime Cashmere dupe since I refuse to buy from that woman. But, like BruceBruce says, it looks good on you.

    1. Hey Holly! Thank you so much! I'm really loving it. I won't buy Lime Crime either after reading all about the crazy scandals. I'm also just about to do a Gerard Cosmetics review and now I'm hearing there's a scandal with them too...something about the owner calling a YouTuber "the ugliest person" because she gave them a bad review. Have you heard about that one? Ugh...
