Physicians Formula Organic Wear BB Mascara Review

Physicians Formula BB Mascara ($9.95 at Bed, Bath & Beyond) is the newest addition to their Organic Wear line. The BB stands for Bigger! Better! lashes.  I generally like Physicians Formula products and the Organic Wear line is free of a lot of nasty chemicals that are in regular cosmetics, so I decided to give this one a try! Plus, there was a $3 coupon on the package that I was able to use at the register to bring it down to $6.95.  Let's see how it worked for me...
The package talks about all of the chemicals that are not present in this formula, including parabens, GMO's, synthetic colors, fragrances, and preservatives.  Plus, it's 100% cruelty-free and has 100% recyclable packaging.  Sounds great so far!

This BB Mascara makes a lot of claims...wow!  According to the box, it pretty much does everything you would want a mascara to do and says you don't have to sacrifice volume for length, or definition for drama. It also talks about their 100% natural coconut cocktail that can expand the hair's diameter by increasing hydration and strengthening the lashes. This mascara actually does have a faint scent of coconut!

Here's a chart of what's in regular mascaras as opposed to the Organic Wear BB mascara formula:

Here's the ingredient list:
The packaging is similar to the other mascaras in the Organic Wear line- it's same shape, only the color is different- white with green lettering.

The brush is very long in length compared to most mascara brushes and is the hard plastic bristle type.

I really like the wand and I can see where the claims come from about getting both length and volume, definition and drama.  One side has very short bristles that pick up a lot of product and help to get it right into the base of your lashes for volume and drama.  Then you flip the brush to the side with the longer bristles and it combs out the clumps and adds nice length.

The formula feels thick, waxy, and soft as you're applying it.  It's on the wetter side and is easy to build multiple coats.  One issue I had was that this doesn't dry very quickly, so it can smudge very easily for a while after you apply it. My lashes felt soft all day which was good, but I noticed that if I touched the underside of my lashes during the day, even later that night, I would get some mascara transfer on my finger.  It wasn't wet, but some of the black pigment would come off on my skin which has never happened to me with any other mascara I've tried.  By the time I went to bed, it had smudged under my eyes quite a bit.

I thought it made my lashes look both thicker and longer, which is great, but I'm just not sure about the messiness of this product.  Between the smudging, transferring to my skin with the slightest touch, and long dry-down time, I just don't think it's really worth it to use this.  I do really love that it's a more natural mascara and I like the way my lashes looked using it, but I just don't want to have to deal with making sure this stays on my lashes where it belongs.

Have you tried this yet, or seen it around?  I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  1. This mascara sounds really good, but I agree, I don't think it'd be worth it to worry about it smudging and transferring :/ .
