Revlon Eye Art, $7.99 just popped up at Bed Bath and Beyond last week, and it looked like the perfect way to get a festive holiday makeup look going. It comes in ten shades (here they are in case you missed my post from last week...
Most of the shades are pretty colorful but being the safe and boring person that I am (haha), I purchased the one all the way to the right which seemed to be the most wearable shade. It's called Topaz Twinkle and it has a bronze cream shadow on one end and a golden glitter on the other.
Actually, these might look familiar as Revlon reused the same exact packaging as those double ended nail polishes that were a train wreck for me (so streaky and patchy!), but I won't hold it against them. ;)
This product has a cream shadow on one end with glitter on the other. The directions say to apply the cream shadow all over your lid, then use the glitter as an eyeliner or on your lashes (or both!).
The cream shadow end has a sponge-tipped applicator (I was so glad it wasn't a brush!). It's very easy to apply and has a soft, creamy texture that spreads easily. I dab a little on the middle of my lid and blend up and out with my fingers. It doesn't dry immediately so you have a little play time. Once it does dry after a minute or so it doesn't feel sticky or tacky- it feels dry to the touch and it stays put all day.
The glitter side has a brush, and it's nice and thin which makes using this as a liner very easy and foolproof. I'm not a huge glitter fan and I'm not even sure that I would use this for a holiday, but it was fun trying it out anyway. Even though it looks very glitter-heavy in the tube, this is sort of like those glittery nail polishes that you think are going to completely coat your nails with glitter, but really end up going on like clear polish with some glitter in it. It's suspended in a clear gel and when you apply it, it's not solid glitter- you have to go over it a couple of times to get a lot on your eyelid.
Here's a swatch of each- the cream shadow on the left goes on like gold foil, and is really pretty! You can see what I mean with the glitter to the right- one swipe leaves it a bit streaky, it's not a solid glitter line.
When applied to my eyes, it gave a really nice effect. Here I have the cream shadow on and I lined my top lashline with the glitter and also put some on my top lashes. I didn't overdo it but went for a more subtle effect. You can put more shadow/glitter or less and that's what I like about these, you can make it look however you want.
The cream shadow has great staying power and so does the glitter. Hours later, they haven't budged or creased at all. I think this is a really fun product and if you're into bold colors they have a lot of really great combinations to choose from. Even if you like more neutral colors like me, this one is a nice option if you're looking for something to jazz up your eyes in a subtle way. You can control how much or how little glitter you use so the possibilities are endless.
Right now they are available at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $7.99 each. I'm not sure when they'll be hitting the other drugstores, as BBB tends to get new products first. I'd give it a couple of weeks before you see it at Walgreens, Target and CVS.
