I'll start off by saying I wasn't looking for a cleanser when I went into Sephora last week, but I saw this right up front in the section where they put all the new products that have just come out and it caught my eye. So, what's a melting cleanser? Read on to find out...
What it Is: A 3-in-1 face cleanser.
What it Does: It goes from a gelee to an oil upon contact with the skin, then emulsifies into a milk when you add water to remove makeup and cleanse the skin.
What it Costs: $34
Where to Get It: Sephora stores and Sephora.com
Quick Rating: Didn't love it- returned.
Description:
Ingredients:
This melting cleanser comes in a jar and it looks like orange jell-o, but the texture is a bit softer than that. It's easy to scoop out and smells faintly of citrus.
When you first scoop it out of the jar, it looks like this:
It's very soft and buttery, and as you rub it into the skin, it feels like a thick oil cleanser. I used to use Josie Maran's Argan Oil cleanser and I thought that was thick, but this feels even thicker, like putting butter or crisco on your face.
Once it's massaged in, you can add water and it turns into a thin milk. The first time I used it, I didn't feel like it was cleaning my skin well enough, so the next night, I used it with my Clarisonic. That worked better, but I also felt like there was still a layer of oil on my face.
Since I have dry skin, I didn't mind the film this left on my skin because it wasn't irritating and after a while it seemed to sink in and left my face feeling very soft and not dried out at all. There are very mixed reviews on this product, as a lot of people don't like the film it leaves while others thought it was fine.
My main problem with this cleanser is that I typically use an oil cleanser to dissolve my makeup, including eye makeup, before using a regular cleanser. However, this one specifies not to use it on your eyes, which means I have to use an eye makeup remover as well. I tried it anyway and it burned and left a film in my eyes when I tried to rinse it...big mistake.
I've been very happy with my SkinFood Black Sugar Oil Cleanser, since it removes all of my eye makeup (plus it's cheap!) and it's non-irritating, so I'll just continue to use that.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, this wasn't amazing to me and for the price ($34), I just couldn't justify it. I wasn't sure that it was removing all of my face makeup and not being able to use it on my eyes meant I have to add another step to my already lengthy routine. Based on the reviews I've seen, people either love it or hate it. I'm kind of in the middle. If you have dry skin like me and already like using a separate eye makeup remover, you might really like this. If you have oily skin, I think you'll probably find that it leaves your face even more oily. When I returned this today, the girl at Sephora said, "Aww, really? I love this stuff!" So this product definitely has it's fans...I'm just not one of them.
