Makeup Revolution New-Trals vs. Neutrals Palette Review & Swatches

I've been hearing so many raves about the Makeup Revolution New-trals vs. Neutrals Palette ($10) and I've been wanting to buy it but kept forgetting every time I placed an Ulta.com order. Well guess what? An Ulta just opened up near my house...finally! So now you guys won't have to hear me complain that I don't have access to an Ulta store, haha! :) Anyway, I've already been there a few times and this palette is one of the first things I grabbed when I visited the new store.

I've been a huge fan of Makeup Revolution for years and used to order their products from the UK (before they were at Ulta) and overall I've had a great experience with them. So did this palette live up to my expectations? Let's take a look...

I have to say, the shade selection in this palette is gorgeous! It reminds me a lot of the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette...not that I would really call it a dupe but it has a very similar color theme. The top row has those warm, peachy, rosy tones that are super hot right now, while the bottom row has more traditional earth-toned neutrals.

There's a nice mix of matte and shimmer shades in this palette as well. It has enough variation that you can create a complete look with just this palette...it has highlight shades, matte transitions/crease, and lid colors.

It also comes with a double ended brush rather than one of those sponge-tipped applicators and it's a nice touch, especially for a $10 palette. It's honestly not the best brush in the world, but it's nice to have in a pinch.

As beautiful as this palette is, I did have a bit of a hard time picking up some of the shades, whether it was with my finger or a brush. The shimmers are buttery and pigmented but they're also crumbly and many of them create a bit of fallout. The matte shades are drier, dustier and not as pigmented. On bare skin (no primer) the color payoff didn't blow me away. Still, it's better than drugstore palettes like Maybelline or Revlon at a similar price point.

Over primer, the shades fare quite a lot better. I do feel like you need primer with this palette, not just to make the colors more vibrant but also to make them last longer. Without a base to adhere to, they seem to wear away very quickly.

Despite the issues with pigmentation, this is a beautiful palette...especially for the price. The quality is still better than a lot of drugstore palettes (though it's not high-end quality). I definitely recommend using primer with this one if you want it to show up and last a while on your eyelids.

An ulta just opened up near where I live too! What a coincidence! It's so much more convenient, but not for my wallet....

Are these made in China? I've given up on buying makeup( except ELF) thats made in China.

To each their own. :) I really love it! I only use primer, so I wouldn't know the difference without it lol. But I went almost two weeks only using this and that's just plain insane for me! (I have way too much eyeshadow). What is the deal with the name though?! LOL, so weird.

Thank you for his review. So helpful! I can't pass up a bargain sometimes but I would rather spend more and get something long lasting.
