Last month, I posted about some new Hard Candy products that were released at Walmart for Fall 2014 (see the post here) and I've also done some reviews on a few of them already. There are some new Top Ten palettes called the Trendsetter Collection and they come in Mattes, Shimmers, Glitters, and Metallics. I own the Top Ten in Naturally Gorgeous, which has 10 nude toned shades, and I really like it, so I wanted to pick up another one. Most of them were too shimmery/glittery for me, but this one called Birthday Suit is all matte shades! The shades actually remind me of a palette from The Balm called Meet Matte...more on that later.
This palette comes in a faux pebbled leather case with studs and it's really cute! Inside, there's a skinny mirror at the top, just like the original Top Ten palettes.
I love the mix of shades in this palette! It has mostly neutrals with a few (slightly) bolder colors thrown in. I'm still the type of person to choose "safe" wearable colors for the most part, so this doesn't venture too much outside my comfort zone.
OK, so on to the swatches. The first 5 shades are beautiful- the first one blends in with my skintone quiet a bit, so it's hard to see it in the photo. The second shade is a gorgeous olive that's a perfect mix of brown and green. The third shade is a rich chocolate brown with great pigmentation. The fourth color is a cream allover base or highlight shade with a very slight pinkish tone. Finally, the fifth shade is a dove gray that I'm just totally in love with!
The sixth shade is a warm taupe with a bit of orange or coral in it. The seventh shade is another pale cream shade but it's warmer than the pink toned one above The eighth shade is a deeper gray that's not quite charcoal. The ninth shade looks navy blue in the palette, but I was a little disappointed in how it swatched. The other dark colors were very pigmented, but this one took several passes to get the color to deepen. Finally, the last shade is yet another pale cream colored shade that's a bit whiter than the others.
I thought that the colors in this palette looked similar to The Balm's Meet Matte palette, which is $42! It's not an exact dupe, but it definitely has some similarities.
I haven't found the new Hard Candy Trendsetters Top Ten Palettes on Walmart's website, but I found them in my local store, so if you're interested, head on over to your local Walmart and see if they're there!
Did you swatch them wet because my swatches aren't pigmented :(
ReplyDeleteHi Hazel, not wet but over Urban Decay's primer potion.
