L'Oreal True Match Lumi Cushion Foundation is brand new for Spring 2016 and is one of the top products you've been asking me to review lately. So...since I've been testing it out for about a month now, I'm ready to share my thoughts with you guys! I found this at Bed, Bath & Beyond for about $13.50, but it's selling at Ulta Beauty and Drugstore.com for about $16.99...definitely on the more expensive side for a drugstore foundation. Still, if you're willing to wait, I'm sure it'll be going on sale at some point, or there will likely be coupons you can use too.
If you're not familiar with Cushion Compact foundations, they originated in Korea and have recently made their way over here to the U.S. It's basically a very clever way to make liquid foundation portable! So if you like the convenience of throwing a compact into your purse, but don't like powder or cream foundations, this is for you.
When you open the pretty rose gold compact, you'll find a mirror inside the lid and a sponge sitting in the upper tray, just like the Korean versions.
Then, when you flip the tray open, you'll see a sponge inside that's been soaked with liquid foundation. It's truly a genius design, because you'd never be able to pour liquid foundation into a compact and expect it not to leak out everywhere, but the sponge holds it all in place!
The idea is to simply take the puff they give you and press it into the sponge, then tap it onto your face, like you're applying pressed powder.
Alternatively, you can use a flat-top foundation brush to apply this too. I use this one from Beauty Junkees (see my review here)...it's my favorite face brush because it gives such a soft, even finish. But I honestly don't mind using the puff that comes with this foundation because it works really well too. You really don't need a brush to apply this, especially if you're on the go- I just figured I'd use the brush while I was home because I love it so much. If you do use a brush, just keep in mind that you only need to touch it to the sponge...if you use too much pressure, it'll completely saturate the bristles.
Like most cushion foundations, the texture of this is lightweight and the coverage is sheer to medium, depending on how much you build it up. It melts into your skin and doesn't accentuate any dry patches, lines or wrinkles. It creates a smooth, even finish that's not dewy or matte...it's more of a satin finish. If you've ever tried L'oreal's True Match Lumi foundation, it's like a "light" version of that. It has the beautiful finish and blendability I love so much about that foundation but with a bit less coverage.
But despite the fact that the coverage is pretty sheer, it does even out my skin nicely, covering up redness and discolorations. I've tried cushion compacts from Korean brands like Etude House and Laneige, but I like this formula the best. It doesn't feel dry or cakey and looks completely natural...like a second-skin.
This shade swatched below is Classic Buff N3.5, which is a neutral shade (these come in cool, warm and neutral tones).

Overall, this is another winning foundation from the Spring 2016 drugstore collections. If you're trying to decide between the Maybelline Dream Velvet (which I reviewed yesterday), and the True Match Lumi cushion, I would say that this one has a perfect everyday sheer-to-medium coverage and finish that is lightweight, satin, and feels like a second skin, while the Dream Velvet gives you medium coverage and a thicker whipped-gel consistency that dries to a powdery matte finish and gives an airbrushed look. I personally love them both and will likely use this cushion compact everyday, using the Dream Velvet when I need more coverage or if I'm going out at night.
Have you tried the new L'oreal True Match Lumi Cushion foundation yet?
It's available now at drugstores, Ulta Beauty and Drugstore.com

I really want to try a cushion foundation but have been waiting for one that runs less than $30. However I will hold out until a cruelty free brand releases their version. (Hello Profusion! I am talking to you!) I did want to mention the fabulous packaging though. How cute! It reminds me of Too Faced.
ReplyDeleteLoreal products will be in next weeks Walgreens ad for $7.99. I hope this is part of it. I love it!
