Covergirl Bombshell Pow-der Brow Review and Swatches

Covergirl Pow-der Brow ($8.29) is a new brow product for Spring 2015 that's just starting to arrive in stores this week.  I found mine at Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but it should be in the drugstores shortly. I was really interested in this because it's a powder wand vs. a brow gel, and right now, my favorite brow product, Divaderme Brow Extender II is also a powder wand that contains dry fibers that adhere to your skin and hair (see my review here). I really prefer powders because they tend to look softer and more natural than gels which can make your eyebrows look hard and stiff. Take a look...

The packaging says that you can use this for your brows and also to softly line your eyes as well.  I was pretty skeptical about using it as an eyeliner at first, but once I tried out the wand, it made more sense (more on that below).

Powder Brow comes in an inkwell-type container, just like a liquid eyeliner.  For some reason, there's something rattling around inside the cap- it sounds like those little metal balls that are in nail polish that help to stir it around and mix it.  I can't figure out why they would have something like that inside the cap since that's not where the product is...the powder is in the black base at the bottom.

I was expecting a doe-foot applicator similar to a lipgloss wand, because that's what the Divaderme Brow Extender has.  I was surprised to see that this has a small, flat rubbery sponge that feels really grippy and holds a lot of powder on it.  It also makes this so easy to apply- it gives you tons of control because it's not slippery and you can really make sure the product goes exactly where you want it. The small size of the wand also makes it easy to use this as a liner, and it's so heavily pigmented, it deposits a really nice amount of color along the lash line...more than I thought it would!

Here's a close-up of the Pow-der Brow wand.  I purchased the shade "Blonde", which is the lightest shade.  I have naturally dark ash blonde hair that I lighten so I don't like brows that are too dark. They had four shades...Blonde, Medium Brown, Dark Brown and Black. Typically, medium brown is too dark for me so I'm limited to blonde.  This shade is actually pretty dark...I was really surprised.  If you have naturally blonde eyebrows, this is going to look really dark on you. It's also a little bit darker than the Divaderme Ash Blonde shade that I've been using.

I have found Covergirl Pow-der Brow much easier to apply than the Divaderme.  It's so pigmented, it's crazy!  You actually have to use a really light touch or it deposits a ton of color.  If you have a lot of sparse areas, this will fill them in easily.  I barely had to touch it to my brow and instantly they looked fuller. The only downside to using only powder is that it won't tame unruly hairs.  In that case, you may still have to use a clear brow gel to add hold.  I just take a clean spoolie brush and brush them up after I've applied the powder and they stay just fine.  The powder sticks to both hair and skin and lasts all day!

Also, if you don't want your brows to be too dark, use a light touch with this, because its easy to apply too much. The first time I used it, my brows looked really dark and I had to wash it off and start over. So it takes a little bit of practice to get it just right.I didn't think anything would replace my Divaderme brow powder, but Covergirl Pow-der Brow is so much cheaper and gives me so much more control! The only thing I don't like about it is that there can be a bit of fallout and I notice little specks of powder on my eyelid and under my brows. But that can be easily brushed away so it's not that big of a deal.
I would definitely recommend this if you're looking for an alternative to tinted brow gels.  It keeps the hair soft and doesn't mat it down like the gels do.

What do you think?  Are you interested in trying this?
