Glossybox July 2014 Review

My subscription box obsession is growing every day and this month I decided to try Glossybox. Unlike the other boxes I get that have a mix of high end, indie and drugstore products, Glossybox is all about luxury. You get 5 deluxe samples from well known and indie luxury brands for $21 a month. It's double the price of Birchbox and Ipsy so I thought I'd give it a few months and see if it's worth the money.
As you may have noticed, I'm reviewing a July box in August. I received it on Saturday (Aug 2) and I was disappointed because I had seen other reviews start popping up 2 weeks ago and mine hadn't even shipped yet! I wonder if it was because I signed up in early July so they sent the boxes out to existing customers first? I don't know, but as a blogger it kinda sucks because this review is really late at this point.
But lateness aside, I was really glad to see it in my mailbox. The packaging is really nice- definitely a step up from my other subscription boxes! The box itself is pale pink and very sturdy...not your typical corrugated cardboard. I could actually use it to store things in! Inside they included a card with details about each product and it was all tied up with a pink ribbon.

I got 5 products, 4 skincare and 1 hair product- no makeup this month.
I thought the sizes were really good!  There were no small samples and 2 of them were even full sizes!

Skin Inc Custom-Blended Brightening Serum (.34oz $45)-
I was impressed that the first product I saw in the box was from Japanese brand Skin Inc.  I've heard of these award-winning custom blended serums, but they're pretty expensive.  This one is a blend of 3 of their serums to improve the skin's clarity and tone.  This is a $45 product, so it already more than takes care of the cost of the box.  This bottle will last a long time, especially since you only need to use 3 drops!

The Aloe Source Jojoba Radiance Cleansing Polish ($30 for 6.7 oz.)-
I love Neutrogena's Pore Refining Cleanser that contains Alpha and Beta hydroxy acids plus microbeads, but the microbeads are bad for the environment.  This cleanser is sulfate free and has the alpha/beta hydroxys plus jojoba beads, which dissolve and won't pollute the earth. I used it last night and my face is smoother than it's ever been!  $30 is a lot for a cleanser but it was so effective, I may have to splurge on this one!  I got 1 oz. which has a $4.50 value.
Product Description:
This multi-tasking, sulfate-free cleanser effectively removes makeup, oil and impurities. Gently exfoliates with a combination of jojoba microbeads and alpha and beta hydroxy acids, while nourishing aloe vera soothes skin.

Philip B pH Restorative Detangling Toning Mist ($10 for 2 oz)-

This toning mist is super lightweight like water, and is supposed to adjust the pH of your hair with Apple Cider vinegar.  I wasn't a fan of the scent...it smelled like apples but had a sour vinegar note to it.  I actually use Frederic Fekkai Apple Cider Vinegar shampoo once a week to clarify my hair and I like the scent of that so much better- it smells like a fresh green apple!

Product Description:
Weightless, daily detangling mist leaves hair glossy and frizz-free. Perfect for all hair types.
  • Water-light leave-in toner adjusts the pH of tap water to seal the cuticle of your hair, for a remarkably smooth, shiny finish
  • Boosts manageability and shine with Apple Cider Vinegar, a natural astringent and pH balancer
  • A featherweight blend of essential oils detangles, obliterates frizz and static, and imparts a light botanical scent
  • Spritz on clean wet hair—or use to revive your style anytime!
  • Paraben & phthalate free; color & keratin-treatment safe

GlamGlow Youthmud Tinglexfoliate Treatment ($19 for .5oz at Sephora)-

I've seen GlamGlow at Sephora and there seems to be so much buzz around it, but it's expensive so I was hesitant to purchase any of the products.  I'm so excited to try this mud mask!  I'll have to do a review on it once I've tried it out.

Product Description:
This mud mask leaves skin noticeably radiant and glowing. It works with the body's natural moisturizing collagen to provide gentle resurfacing exfoliation and helps to leave skin smoother, brighter, and softer. While providing tighter skin texture and tighter pores, it provides a more youthful appearance and absorbs impurities without removing natural oils.

Malin and Goetz Mojito Lip Balm ($12 for .35 oz)-
I've gotten this once before, either in Birchbox or Ipsy, and I love it so I'm really happy to get another tube.  It's super moisturizing and tastes exactly like a mojito.
Product Description:
Our Mojito Lip Balm is as soothing to the lips as it is to the senses.  Flavored with (MALIN+GOETZ) Mojito, our lip balm is scientifically blended to restore and replenish.  Our hydrating lip gel easily integrates for daily maintenance, prevention and treatment of dry, irritated lips.  Color and Paraben free.

Overall, my first Glossybox was a success! I think it's a great way to try luxury beauty products without laying out the cash for them. As a girl on a budget, I like to make sure I'm really going to like a product before I buy it and the samples (and some full sizes) I got were large enough for multiple uses, so it's a great deal!  I plan to try it for at least 3 months to see if it's worth the money, and so far I feel that you get a lot for your $21- the total value of this box was $90.50!
