By now, everyone is probably familiar with the concept of dry shampoo but what about dry conditioners? I admit, I was confused by them when I first started seeing the around. I kept thinking, "my hair gets greasier the longer I go without washing it, so why would I want to add more moisture and oil to it??" As it turns out, there's a really good reason for using them, but not everyone will benefit from dry conditioner. Keep on reading to find out if it's right for you!

I have naturally dry hair to begin with, and highlighted from mid-shaft to the ends, so the bottom half is even more dry than the roots. My ends usually look good the day I wash it, but after sleeping on it, they get all wonky and crunchy. They don't have the same bounce they had the day before and usually won't cooperate at all. To make matters worse, they feel so dried out, I don't want to use a curling iron on them again. Adding more shine serum or styling cream will just weigh them down, so that's where dry conditioner comes in!
It's an aerosol spray that delivers lightweight oils and nutrients into the hair to soften it without adding weight. My favorite one is by Kardashian Beauty ($14.99 at Target & Ulta). Say what you want about the K-family, but their hair products are actually amazing. They're made by Farouk Systems, the same company that makes CHI, so they're salon-quality products.
I just spray it from the mid-shaft to the ends from several inches away and then finger comb my hair. This photo below is how my second-day hair looked after using the Kardashian Dry Conditioner...my ends went from crispy to bouncy with lots of shine. The best part is, it doesn't feel weighed down at all. Since I have dry hair and scalp, I generally don't need dry shampoo on the second day, but if I go three days without washing, then I just use dry shampoo on my roots and dry conditioner on the ends.

If your hair is oily or your ends are healthy and you don't have any issues with dryness on the bottom half of your hair, you probably don't need it. But if your hair gets crunchy at the ends the day after washing, dry conditioner is a must-have product! It prevents me from having to just throw my hair up in a ponytail or bun, which is what I always used to do with second-day hair. I'm hoping to see some drugstore options soon! Suave and Got2b used to make them but I can't find them anymore.

Your hair looks so shiny and pretty! Not dry at all. I have the same issue with next day hair so I will be looking into dry conditioners. Thank you for such an informative post. Maybe I've been living under a rock but I had no idea these even existed.

DeleteI do have dry hair that doesn't need to be washed daily. It is something I may try but I simply refuse to give any of my money to the Kardashian bunch. So maybe one of the others will fit the bill. Thanks for bringing dry conditioners to our attention. I for sure never heard of them.
ReplyDeleteHi Robin, can you believe I've never even seen their show? Haha! So I guess I don't have much of an opinion of them. But I wanted to try a dry conditioner so badly and it was the only one they had a Target (or any of the drugstores near me) and sadly I don't live near an Ulta store. I wish they would bring back the Suave or Got2b versions that used to be out there!
