City Color Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream ($6.99 at Citycolorcosmetics.com) is a beautiful cream highlighter I picked up at Five Below recently and I'm already obsessed...I can't believe there aren't more reviews on this out there! You could say I have a little problem when it comes to highlighters- I buy them every chance I get and have a ton of them, both drugstore and high-end in powder, cream, and liquid formulas. This one could be the least expensive of them all, and is quickly becoming one of my absolute favorites. Let's take a look...
Glowing Complexion Illuminating Cream comes in one shade, a beautiful champagne that would probably work for a variety of skin tones. It's packaged in a slim tube that's just over 1oz. so you get a ton of product for $5! I can see this lasting for more than a year, considering a little goes a long way.
It has a narrow tip for dispensing which is great...it helps to keep things neat and gives you more control than a pump. You can use as little or as much as you want without wasting product.
This can be used under foundation as a base to give your skin an all-over glow, or on top of foundation as a highlighter. I use my fingers to apply it to my cheekbones, forehead, bridge of my nose, and cupid's bow, but you can use a brush or beauty blender as well. I just find it quickest to use my fingers.
Here's what it looks like when you first swipe it...it has amazing pigmentation. It has a super lightweight, silky feel to it that's so soft and easy to blend.
Blended out a little, you can see that it's not glittery at all, yet it picks up so much light! I really like when highlighters are pigmented enough that they make your cheekbones really pop...sometimes they're barely noticeable. You don't have to worry about that with this one...it's absolutely stunning on the skin.
I was hoping that this might be a dupe for a more expensive highlighter, but I couldn't get the color to match any of the ones I own. It's somewhere in between Becca's Pearl and Opal Shimmering Skin Perfectors...it's a little warmer than Pearl, but not as pink as Opal. It's also in-between The Balm's Mary LouManizer and Cindy LouManizer powder highlighters...it's not as pink as Cindy Lou but not as gold as Mary Lou. So it's a very unique shade that I'm so happy to add to my ever-growing highlighter collection!

So glad you reviewed this...I saw it at Five Below last week, was intrigued, and bought it! Haven't tried it yet, I don't have a lot of experience with highlighters, especially cream ones. Definitely using it tomorrow lol
ReplyDeleteI find the creams are a little easier to work with than powders because you can just dab them right where you want them with your fingers. When I use powder ones they always go all over the place, lol.
DeleteThis looks gorgeous! I can totally see this becoming a fast favorite.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had it that long but it's already one of my favorites! ♡
DeletePerhaps it reminds you of Benefit's Watts Up! ?
ReplyDeleteI thought that too but nope! Watts Up is more gold champagne and this one looked pink next to it. :(
DeleteWow, this is very nice!! I like how the shimmer is very refined, not disco-ballish, and it's not too orange or dark. Perfect for summer (Katherine T.)
ReplyDeleteYes it's not disco-ball shimmery at all! It just gives a beautiful champagne sheen. Love it!
DeleteDoes this baby set? Or does it retain a lotion-like emollient texture? Lastly, can you suggest a highligher that sets? :) thanks. Loved the swatches, definitely looks dewy, not glittery buyt I was wondering if it sets well because it's so hot in my country
ReplyDeleteLoving your reviews hun !!!
