Flower by Drew Barrymore Fragrances Review

Flower Cosmetics has just released three fragrances this month at Walmart: Cherished, Radiant and Sultry. I first posted about the launch early last month and I spotted them yesterday at my local Walmart (in the fragrance aisle, not with the Flower cosmetics). Let's have a look!

What it Is: Three new fragrances from Drew Barrymore's Flower line.
What it Does: These scents are meant to "capture the joy of life and love, in all of its meanings". They can be layered together also!
What it Costs: Rollerball, $9.98, 15 ml $19.98, 30ml, $24.98
Where to Get It: Exclusively at Walmart
Quick Rating: Love one, like one, dislike one.

I always hesitate to do perfume reviews because it's a very personal thing with lots of room for disagreement. It's so much easier with makeup to say, "this is highly pigmented"or "this gloss feels sticky" because those are tangible things. Plus, everyone's body chemistry is different and what smells terrible on me might smell great on you, and vice versa.

So while I'll do my best to describe these, please keep in mind that you may totally disagree with me!

I purchased the Rollerball versions since they are just under $10 and not a huge expense if I don't like them. I figured I can always buy the bigger version of the ones I like.
So I'll start with my favorite and work down from there.

Cherished- "Inspired by the nuzzling nature of the time a woman is with her family in her home."
Top Notes: Italian Lemon, Blackcurrant Leaves and Buds.
Middle Notes: Iris Petals, Rose, and Lily of the Valley
Bottom Notes: Tahitian Vanilla, Pure Cotton, Musk, Creamy Sandalwood.
I knew from the description that I would like Cherished the best, and I was right. I gravitate toward soft, warm, snuggly fragrances and that's exactly what this is. It kept reminding me of something the first day I wore it and then I realized...it smells so much like a perfume from Mark (Avon's sister company) called Sophistique. I'm not sure if they even still make that.
Although Cherished has lemon in the top notes and a floral middle, all I smell is the Tahitian vanilla, musk, and sandalwood on me. I'm sure the top and middle notes keep this fragrance from being too heavy and give it it's lightness, but my nose doesn't pick them out, it goes straight for the warm notes. To me, this starts powdery and soft, like my baby's skin after his bath and shortly after turns to a creamy, sweet vanilla. It's a great fall snuggling fragrance!

Radiant- Carries a sense of enthusiasm and is intended to lift you up. The composition promises invigoration and joy throughout the day.

Top Notes: Green, dewy chords of Sparkling Italian Bergamot and water molecule Calone.
Middle Notes: Rose, Pink Peony and Magnolia.
Bottom Notes: Crystal Musk, Pink Amber, White Woods.

Radiant is green, clean, and fresh. If you've ever smelled the Irish perfume Inis, it smells a bit like that. It's definitely got that ocean-vibe thanks to Calone in the top notes. Calone is a synthetic molecule discovered by Pfizer that's credited with starting the "marine scent" craze in the 1990's. It's in Cool Water, L'Eau d'Issey and Aqua DiGio, to name a few, so if you like those scents, you may like this as well. For me, it smells soapy and fresh like I just took a shower, or like a freshly laundered cotton shirt. It's a great every day scent and would be especially great in the warmer weather.
Sultry- Associated with nightlife and romantic moments.
Top Notes: Plum, Pink Pepper, Cranberries
Middle Notes: Night-blooming Jasmine, Succulent Blackberries, Cashmeran.
Bottom Notes: Blending Patchouli, Madagascar Vanilla, Musk.
Sultry is my least favorite of the three.  It's a bit too strong for my taste, I prefer subtle scents.  At first I smell the berries, but it deepens into a musky, patchouli-type scent on my skin.  I'm not a patchouli fan, but if you are, you might really like this!

Overall, I think I'll be adding Cherished to my fall fragrance lineup!  Also, I wanted to add that these are actually quite long lasting!  I'm not sure how the sprays would be, but the scent stayed all day on the areas where I used the rollerball, and I could smell it if I moved my hand past my face throughout the day.  Granted, toward the end if the day, they had deepened into their bottom notes so the fragrance had changed a bit, but I liked that these didn't just fade away.

Will you be trying any of the Flower fragrances?  Which one sounds like something you'd wear?

  1. Thank you for your review, it is very helpful! I saw Drew on a talk show and was very interested in these, and a Walmart just opened in my town. After reading your review, I can't wait to try them.
