Tarte Colored Clay CC Under Eye Primer $24 is a new product that I wasn't looking for when I walked into Sephora the other day, but I ended up with it anyway (funny how that happens, isn't it?). One of the sales girls there was raving about it as I picked it up and swatched it on the back of my hand. She told me they were using it on all their clients and were having a hard time keeping it in stock. I immediately liked the emollient, creamy texture so I bought it.
I purchased the Light/Medium shade, but there's also a Medium/Tan shade as well.
Product Description:
"A multitasking, full coverage CC that supports the coverage of under eye discolorations and dark circles.
Create a flawless complexion with this revolutionary skin corrector. Naturally-derived light-diffusing particles work to revitalize and brighten the delicate skin under the eyes, while color-correcting colored clay helps to offset the look of dark circles and discoloration. This nutrient-rich formula hydrates, conditions, and smoothes skin—for an instantly bright-eyed, younger-looking complexion in universal shades."
It comes in a lightweight, slim compact that's great for travel or to keep in your purse.
The Light/Medium shade has a bit of a peachy tone to it and looked darker in the pan than what I would normally use under my eyes, so I was concerned about the color match.
On my skin it still looked peachy but that's where the color correcting comes into play...orange tones help to neutralize the blue that can appear under the eye area. I found that once I blended it out, it meshed really well with my skin and I couldn't tell it was there. Also, the description says it has light-reflecting particles in it, but I don't notice any shimmer whatsoever, which is great!
Now this is described as a color corrector rather than a concealer, so typically you would layer a corrector under concealer since most of them don't provide much coverage. But this actually has a lot of coverage and it's very thick and creamy so I think layering a concealer over this would be way too much. I found that it actually covered quite a lot and really brightened up my eye area...take a look at my before and afters:
Before- I had some blue and red tones toward the inner corner and underneath my eye, as well as some sun damage/freckling under my eye.

This corrector is very thick, but it's also very moisturizing and not dry like some other thick concealers are. I didn't have a problem with this creasing or settling into fine lines at all, but I've read some reviews where other people did have that problem. Here's what I did... I applied it very sparingly because thicker products will sink into lines if you use too much. I skipped the concealer brush that Tarte recommended and picked up a tiny bit on my ring finger and patted (not rubbed!) it into the inner corner of my eye first where I needed it most, and then kept dabbing along my under eye area. With this, less is more and you can always go back and add a little more if you need it. By starting in the corner and working out, you aren't putting the bulk of the product on an area with lines, so it won't settle in them.
Overall, I'm loving Tarte's CC Under Eye Corrector. For me, it was totally worth spending a little bit more! If you're looking for something to brighten the under eye area while covering up imperfections, head on over to Sephora and trying this out (you can always return it if it doesn't work for you).

On a smaller budget? Try my favorite drugstore under eye concealer/highlighter, Rimmel Match Perfection. It's creamy, doesn't settle into lines and brightens the whole eye area without shimmer! ($4.97 Walmart).
