Do you suffer from Keratosis Pilaris (KP), those tiny little bumps on the backs of your arms or fronts of your thighs? Or just rough, bumpy skin in general? I've had problems with KP on my legs as far back as I can remember, and I've had yet to find a solution for it. Every time I go to the beach or pool, I find myself feeling self-conscious and wishing I had super smooth legs like other girls, but instead, the front of my thighs have these tiny little bumps. They weren't super red or anything...in fact, they're mostly skin colored, and I'm probably the only one who was conscious of them, but they have always annoyed me nonetheless.
I spotted this new Gold Bond Ultimate Rough and Bumpy Skin Daily Therapy Cream ($11.49) at Bed, Bath and Beyond and it specifically said that it's meant to treat KP, so I knew I had to try it! Take a look...
Product Description:
This cream has AHA, BHA, and PHA to exfoliate the skin and get rid of the dead cells and keratin that clog up the surface and cause those bumps in the first place. I had always heard of AHA (fruit and milk acids that exfoliate the surface), BHA (salicylic acid that gets down into the skin and clears out oil and debris) but I had never heard of PHA. Poly Hydroxy Acids function the same way as Alpha Hydroxy's but since they have a larger molecule size, they cause less irritation. They also provide anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties as well.
Full Ingredient List:
In addition to the exfoliating acids, this cream also contains Shea Butter, Aloe, Jojoba, Cocoa Seed Butter for extra hydration.
Texture and Scent:
This cream has a thick texture similar to a body butter but it spreads very easily. One thing I noticed with this is that it remains tacky for quite a while, so I only use it at night. I've been using it on my legs and then I put on leggings and socks to seal it in and let it go to work. In the morning after my shower as I'm toweling off, I notice my skin rolling off in little pills (sorry, it's gross but necessary info since it shows that this product is a great exfoliator!). The first day I was amazed at how much dead skin there was. Granted, this becomes much less after the first few days once all the dead skin has been removed.
It has a mild scent, but it's not anything added, just the scent of the cream itself. It fades very quickly and I don't notice it after a few minutes.
Final Thoughts:
I've been using this cream every night for a week and the skin on my legs is really smooth and soft. My legs have more of a glow now that the dulling dead skin has been removed. I also had the idea to use my Clarisonic face brush on my thighs in the shower to exfoliate my skin further and I noticed the biggest difference in my KP after doing that- they were about half as noticeable after the first time I used the Clarisonic with my regular body wash! So between that and the Gold Bond cream, this is the first time in my life that I've noticed a real difference in the bumps and I've tried every body scrub and exfoliant cream out there. Just be aware that this cream will leave your skin feeling a little sticky so it's best to use it at night.
