Harvey Prince Journey Review and Giveaway

Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while know that I've fallen in love with Harvey Prince perfumes!  First I tried Hello and declared it my Summer 2014 signature scent, then a few weeks ago, I tried (and gave away) Yogini which will be amazing in the Fall and Winter.  Now another scent has grabbed my attention and will definitely compete with Hello for my Summer scent- it's called Journey.
Like the other Harvey Prince perfumes I've tried, Journey is a well-rounded scent that is neither too floral, too fruity, too musky or too sweet.  It's the perfect blend of notes that just smells so good. That's what I like best about Harvey Prince perfumes- they don't enter the room before you do or overpower anyone, they smell clean and fresh, yet warm and inviting. I've liked every one I've tried so far, and that never happens- how often do you like multiple scents from the same brand? My husband who is really picky about perfumes has liked every one I've tried from Harvey Prince so far and when I wore Journey today he actually told me I smelled nice- I didn't even have to ask him, "do you like this perfume?"
Journey's notes are:
Indonesian Clove Bud- Australian Sandalwood- Moroccan Rose- French Bergamot- Indian Tuberose- Japanese Orangeflower- Lebanese Cedarwood- Turkish Cyclamen- South African Freesia.
Of course, scent is always a matter of taste and smell different on everyone depending on your body chemistry, but on me, Journey starts out very fresh and clean with a hint of warmth and sweetness to balance it out.  It's a vacation smell, but not in a beachy or suntan lotion sort of way. It's so hard to describe, but it transports me back to a vacation my husband and I took to Newport, RI a few summers ago.  The salt air was fresh and invigorating and was blended with the wonderful scents wafting out of the shops selling expensive candles, fragrances and treats. It's a comforting scent for me because it takes me back to an amazing vacation!

So that's my experience- now you get to try it out! Harvey Prince has partnered with me to give away a 1.7 oz. bottle worth $55 to 5 of my readers!
Enter to win below and good luck!  I'll contact all 5 winners by email after the contest ends.

Bonne Bell Blend 'N Glow Review and Giveaway

Bonne Bell Blend 'N Glow is a silky, multipurpose powder designed to give you a beautiful healthy glow. I honestly can't believe I haven't tried it before now- I've been missing out!
Bonne Bell is generously giving away a Blend 'N Glow plus more to one lucky reader below, so check out the contest at the end of this post.

I received the shade Natural Blush but there is also a more bronzy shade called Sun Kissed.
I call this a multipurpose powder because you can use it so many ways! My favorite is to swirl a big fluffy brush through all four colors and hit my temples, cheeks, nose, shoulders, and collarbones with it. It imparts a subtle, satiny pearl finish that's not sparkly. You can also use the other shades individually, for example you can dip a smaller brush into the lightest color and use it to highlight the cheekbones, inner corners of the eyes or cupids bow. Or use the darker pinky shades on the cheeks as blush.
The powder is super soft and leaves a silky finish to the skin that feels so nice! I'm not normally a powder person since I have dry skin but this doesn't look cakey or make my skin feel or look drier at all. It just controls shine (and excess oil if you're oily) and leaves behind a radiant ethereal glow!
Here's a close-up look at the colors. This is the perfect combination to mimic a natural skin tone. It's not just brown like a bronzer, it has a bit of beige and a bit of pink and all these tones together make it look so natural.
Here's what all the shades look like blended together. I swirled my finger around the palette and this is the result. This will look amazing on any skin tone but it's especially good if you're pale and tend to shy away from bronzers. It adds just the barest hint of color and a soft-focus glow.
There are products out there that claim to add a radiance to your skin, but this has the best finish of any I've tried- at any price! You can pick this up at Walmart or Kmart for under $4, which is an amazing price for this. It's definitely reached HG status for me already.
So, who wants to win a Blend 'n Glow, plus the two Lip Lacquers I reviewed yesterday, and the Gel Bronze I reviewed last week?
Enter below and good luck! One lucky winner will receive all 4 products!

Harvey Prince Yogini Review and Giveaway

A while back, I tried my first Harvey Prince fragrance, Hello (see my review here), and I was hooked!  I couldn't wait to try more from this emerging brand, so I was super excited when they generously sent me another scent to review, Yogini and are also offering a free bottle to one lucky Budget Beauty Blog reader (contest entry below)!

harvey prince yogini
Harvey Prince was started by two brothers who wanted to create a perfume for their Mother for Mother's Day.  Their products are 100% cruelty free, made in the U.S.A., and don't contain the toxic chemicals that are found in many perfumes.  Another thing I love about them is that their perfumes tell a story and so far both of the scents I've tried aren't overwhelming and just give you a sense of well-being and make you feel good!

Yogini is the fragrance that "calms the mind, soothes the soul and frees the spirit.  Relaxing, light, and lasting, Yogini is the glow that stays with you."

Yogini's notes are:
Sandalwood, Golden Amber, Sensual Incense, Egyptian Myrrh, Pink Grapefruit, Blackcurrant Buds, Lily of the Valley, Star Jasmine, Rose Petals, Ylang-Ylang, Cardamom, and Madagascar Vanilla.

When I first sprayed this, I loved it right away.  It smelled warm, woody and earthy, exactly how I pictured it would smell.  However, it isn't heavy because I could also smell the florals intermingled with the top notes, which kept it light and fresh and really balanced it out beautifully!  After a few hours, the Ylang-Ylang and Vanilla came through on my skin and it just smelled warm and cozy.  It's the perfect combination of spices and freshness and I have already gotten several compliments from both men and women on Yogini.
If I had to compare it to Hello, I would say that Hello is happy and energizing, where Yogini is sensual and calming- they're like two totally different moods and I plan on wearing whatever one suits my mood that day.
Yogini comes in an 8.8ml tall spray for $26, a 1.7oz for $55 or an 8.8oz mini roller for $21.

Be sure to check out Harvey Prince on social media- they'd love to hear from you!  When posting to them, please use the hashtag:  #whifflove.

Taya Beauty Amazon White Clay Thickening Hair Collection Review and Giveaway

A few months ago, I was approached about trying Taya Beauty's Amazon White Clay Thickening Hair products.  It was perfect timing, as I had just seen a demo on HSN and was intrigued by the line, especially since I have fine hair.
I was expecting to get a few products to try, but was super excited to get the whole line! (You can get everything you see here too-read on!)

First, a little about the line... all Taya products are formulated free of sulfates, parabens, animal products, and animal testing.
All the ingredients are sourced through environmentally sustainable programs and  the local communities directly benefit from their harvests and conservation efforts.

Here's what the Taya website says about the Amazon White Clay Collection and how it works to thicken hair:
Amazon White Clay is a natural clay rich in iron, potassium, calcium, and sulfur. The clay absorbs organic materials along the banks of the Amazon River  creating a super-nourishing clay that adds greater body, richness and thickness to the hair shaft.
Croton Lechleri Resin, derived from the Croton Lechleri Tree provides density, thickness and nourishment, reducing hair thinning, expanding the hair cuticle, and making hair feel richer and thicker.
Extracts of Raw Avocado Oil penetrate into the hair follicle providing conditioning, nourishment and shine while reducing hair thinning and breakage.
Here are my thoughts on the products:
Since the shampoo $20 is sulfate free, it doesn't lather easily, but it's very thick and moisturizing so it cleanses without stripping the hair- perfect for those with damage or if you're worried about breakage.  The conditioner $22 is rich and creamy and made my hair feel silky when rinsing it out.
The Thickening Leave-In Mist $22 (left) was one of my favorite products in the line.  I sprayed it on damp hair after showering and after blow drying, my hair looked much more full and shiny.
The Thickening Styling Creme $22(middle) is a little more moisturizing and heavier than the Leave-In Mist.  I tried them both together the first time and it was too much for my hair and it was a little weighed down.  So depending on your hair type, you could use one or the other.  If your hair is very thin or not dry/damaged, you might want to use the Leave-In spray, and if you have a bit more thickness or if your hair is dry and needs moisture, the styling creme will add more body while taming frizzies.
The Thickening Hair Spray $24 (right) is a medium hold finishing spray.  I'm personally not a huge fan of non-aerosol hairsprays with a pump because I tend to put too much in my hair, so I prefer the Aerosol version below.

The Thickening Hairspray $24(left) is another favorite of mine.  I like to flip my head upside down after drying my hair and spray this in circles a few times.  It gives such great body and hold!  I also spray a little on my fingers and tame the frizzies at my hairline.
The Thickening Whipped Clay $24(middle) is similar to mousse.  I found that it gave my hair a lot of texture which isn't something I want if I'm going for a smooth sleek look, but it added the texture and hold I needed to create waves with a curling iron.
The Hair Plumper $24(right) is a hybrid Mousse/Hairspray and is a really unique product.  This was also one of my favorites, as I would spray it into my roots before blow drying and got tons of volume without weight or the stickiness that many root lifting sprays give you.
Overall, Taya's Amazon White Clay Line is great for plumping up fine, limp hair and the formulas are gentle and free of harsh ingredients.  Visit TayaBeauty for more information or to purchase.
Want to win every product that was featured here?  Taya Beauty is giving away the entire line ($182 Value) to one lucky Budget Beauty Blog reader!

To enter, sign up below. You can get 3 entries for liking the Budget Beauty Blog on Facebook!  You can also get extra entries by Liking Taya Beauty on Facebook, Following Taya Beauty on Twitter, commenting on this post, and by tweeting about the giveaway.

L'Oreal Youth Code Pore Vanisher Review and Giveaway

L'Oreal's new Youth Code Pore Vanisher ($19.99) claims to actually shrink your pores in one month.  When I saw that on the display at the drugstore, I was pretty skeptical.  I read a ton of beauty magazines, and have since my early teens, and the one thing all the experts are always saying is that you can visually minimize pores, but nothing can actually shrink them.

Here's what L'Oreal says about the new Pore Vanisher:

What is Pore Vanisher™?
Pore Vanisher™ is a fresh, airy cream that instantly minimizes the look of pores and shrinks actual pore size in 1 month.

How does it work?
Pore Vanisher™ works on three dimensions to shrink pores: depth*, number and size. Instantly pores appear virtually vanished and skin feels hydrated. Perlite absorbs excess oil for an all-day, shine free, smooth finish. In one day LHA micro-exfoliates to visibly smooth skin’s surface. In one month pores begin to snap back into shape as our highest concentration of Perline-P strengthens and tightens pore walls to shrink actual pore size.

They also have un-retouched photos on their website that show the product minimizing the pores, so I figured I would do the same thing.

First, here are the packaging photos and ingredients:

It comes in a really pretty tube with a pink ombre effect and it dispenses very easily.
The consistency is creamy and it goes on like velvet.  It has a slight color to it, but it really didn't show once blended into the skin.

A lot of people are saying that this could be a dupe for Benefit's The Porefessional, but I don't feel that way.  Yes, they both minimize pores, but the textures feel quite different.  The Porefessional is a drier, waxy, balm-like consistency, while the Pore Vanisher is creamy with a silky texture, like a skin cream with a bit of silicone in it.
Also, the Porefessional doesn't have the extra skincare ingredients that help to shrink the pores over time like the Pore Vanisher does, so they are very different products.  I think NYX's Pore Filler is a better dupe for the Porefessional, and will be doing a comparison post later this week.

So here are my before and after photos.  I'm not wearing any makeup, and you can see the pores on my cheek to the left of my nose.  There's a bit of shine there, which surprised me because I'm usually pretty dry.

Now the after photo- the shine is gone and my pores are much less noticeable...success!

I think this product does a really good job of minimizing pores and getting rid of shine.  I think it hides pores just as well as Benefit's Porefessional, and if the Pore Vanisher truly helps to shrink the pores over time, it's definitely worth picking up and trying.

At $20, it's a cheaper option and may even do a lot more than other pore fillers, which only hide the pores temporarily.

What do you think about this product?  Have you used it yet or do you want to?

Guess what?  I have one tube of Pore Vanisher to give away to one lucky winner. Enter below for your chance to win one!
