A few weeks ago, I pulled out my bottle of L'oreal's Magic Lumi primer, because I was thinking about this new strobing trend and wanted to see how it compared to the newest illuminating formulas. Let's just say, I fell in love with it all over again, so I decided to go back into my makeup drawers and pull out all of the other L'oreal products that I happen to love, but haven't used in a while.
Starting with the Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base ($12.99), I have to say that this primer is holy grail status for me. It's definitely not for everyone...it's very thick and spackle-like. But on my dry, textured skin it's like magic! I have visible pores on my cheeks and an orange-peel texture on my chin and this minimizes those textures easily because it's so thick. It leaves my skin looking so smooth and feeling really soft and mattified. You only need a tiny bit, and a little goes a long way. It reminds me of the Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer quite a bit and is a good dupe for that!
The Magic Lumi Light-Infusing Primer ($12.99) and Magic Lumi Highlighter ($12.99) have been out since 2012 but are right on-trend again thanks to the strobing craze. The Magic Lumi primer comes out white (as you can see in my swatch below) but once it's blended on the skin, it gives you the most beautiful, ethereal glow that you can wear alone or let it peek through your foundation. It feels very light and silky on your skin as well!
The Magic Lumi Highlighter comes in four shades (I'm using Fair here which is very pink-toned) and is great for highlighting many different areas of your face...under the eyes, brow bones, cupid's bow, cheekbones, etc. It doesn't contain a lot of shimmer...it's more of a subtle highlight but it makes everything look brighter. It's actually a pretty close dupe for YSL Touche Eclat (L'oreal actually owns YSL) and I've been reaching for this every day lately!

The Visible Lift Blur Blush ($6.49) is a cream formula that feels like it has a primer-type base so it glides onto the skin easily and blends like a dream, making your cheeks look really smooth and minimizing the look of pores. It gives a really natural finish that lasts about 8 hours on me...I have dry skin but if you have oily skin and are wondering if this will be long-lasting for you, I suggest you check out this review that G from Nouveau Cheap did on this blush a while ago. She has suggestions on how she wears it to make it last longer. I have the shades Soft Peach and Soft Pink, but there's also a darker shade called Soft Berry (which is the one G reviewed).

I also want to mention another foundation favorite from L'oreal...the True Match Lumi foundation. It's a bit sheerer and more lightweight than these but it has a beautiful, luminous finish that my dry skin loves.

Finally, I've been using the Brow Stylist Definer ($8.99) a lot lately...I ran out of my Anastasia Brow Wiz and am liking this almost as much!

I noticed the other day that the Targets near me had the Visible Lift Blur Blush (Soft Berry) clearanced for $3.xx. There were also some of the Visible Lift Foundations also on clearance, but unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to the shades. So anyone thinking of picking these up to try - might want to check their local Target. :)
ReplyDeleteI too like the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Definer - I originally ended up picking it up when I was traveling and forgot some key makeup items; was pleasantly surprised! I use it in conjunction with the L'Oreal Brow Stylist Sculpter Pencil. The Brow Stylist Definer is definitely is quite similar to the Anastasia Brow Wiz and also the Bare Minerals "Frame & Define". I actually like the L'Oreal one better.
I started using my Milani Baked Blush "Luminoso" again...love that stuff! I had forgotten how pretty it looks.
I saw them on clearance at Target too and I was afraid they were being discontinued! But they're not on sale anywhere else, so I'm guessing that only Target isn't going to be carrying them anymore. Thanks for the reminder...anyone who might be looking for them should definitely try Target first! :) Oh yes...Milani's Baked Blushes are so, so good!
ReplyDeleteI just did a post earlier this week about my favorite Loreal products!! I talked about a few of the same products if you're interested!! I've been loving the brow stylist definer!

Hi Jenny! Awesome, I will definitely check out your post! :)
DeleteI just got out my Lumi primer again this week :) Now I'm intrigued by that Studio Sectets primer!! I'm gonna have to find that one!
ReplyDeleteI just bought a new one because my original one was too old to use and I found that I still love it! It might be too heavy to wear during really hot days in the summer but the rest of the time it's amazing. :)
DeleteI love Amber Rush! Probably my favorite eyeshadow shade ever. Lately I've just been wearing it on it's own, packed onto my lid and blended up into the crease. Super easy and looks great, though sometimes there's some fallout when I apply. Makes my blue eyes really pop. I'll have to try out the lumi primer some time.
ReplyDeleteAs a side note, I really like the idea behind this post! It's nice to hear about products that are still worth checking out after newer releases have come and gone, the stuff that I might have missed the first time around. Like the Infallible eyeshadows, for example. They've been around for ages, but I only "discovered" them fairly recently!
It really is...I have blue eyes too and it's the perfect complimentary color! I would say it's my favorite too. :) And thank you so much...I'm glad you like this idea! I plan to do it with other brands too. :)
DeleteI have the studio secret primer but I find it a pain to scoop out of the pot and apply it on my skin. Blushing harmony looks like a berry on your skintone. It's nude on me and I love it so much. It's so moisturizing and nourishing unlike other lip glosses.
ReplyDeleteHaha maybe it's just the lighting or the way it looks on my skin versus on my lips. On me, it's definitely not a nude, but it's a MLBB shade I would say. It's not much darker than my natural lip color. And yes...these are seriously nourishing...like super glossy lip balms! :)
DeleteOhhh those blushes look nice! And I only have one Infallible Eyeshadow but I never use it. Starting tomorrow that changes!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh...there are so many beautiful Infallible shades. I was grocery shopping a few months ago and they had a bunch of different colors and I don't know what got into me but I just grabbed a bunch more shades that I didn't have before. They're so pigmented and gorgeous...like high end shadows. :)
DeleteMy Target has the blushes on clearance for 3.35.
ReplyDeleteI also own the Colour riche extraordinaire lip color in Putple prelude. For me, it's a MLBB type of purple lip that also feels very nourishing. I definitely want to repurchase it in other MLBB type colors when I use up some of my lippies. While, I'm trying to use up my own eyeshadow (palette) collection (eyeshadows and loose powders are my weakness), I definitely will need to get my hands on the infallible eyeshadow when a good sale comes around.

I have that same problem with my chin I think! I've never known how to describe it, and nothing I do makes it better. I have to try this primer!! Thanks!! :D And the Lumi primer is amazing, and those cheek balms look so good!
