YouTube Made Me Buy It

During the day when I have some downtime (which isn't that often with a toddler), my guily pleasure is watching YouTube videos. I sneak them in when I can...I'll set up my tablet in the kitchen while I'm cooking or near the ironing board when I have a stack of shirts to do.

I absolutely love watching haul videos and beauty reviews but they do come with a price, which is the steady flow of money out of my bank account. They're so addicting aren't they?!

I recently bought The Balm's Balm Desert bronzer after watching EmilyNoel83 review it (and it's since become my favorite bronzer). Then the other day, I wound up at Sephora purchasing two of the new Lancome Juicy Shakers after seeing Dani from CoffeeBreakWithDani review those (I will be reviewing them here shortly). There are many more times when a YouTuber convinced me that I needed a product (and plenty of bloggers too!).

So my question for you today is...what was the last product YouTube made you buy?

  1. From a recommendation on one of KathleenLights video's I bought Glossier's balm dotcom. I have larger than normal lips that are always dry so I'm always down to try anything that will help. So I bought it and now I don't think I can live without it. It's $12 which I guess is kinda steep for a lip balm but definitely worth it because it actually works. They also sent me a sample of their priming moisturizer and I loved it so much I ordered that too. My last glossier order was over $70. All that from one recommendation of a $12 lip balm on Kathleen Lights YouTube channel, ha!

    1. Oh yeah, I know the feeling...I see one product recommendation and end up with 5 things when I'm done, haha! I have the Coconut Balmdotcom and it's a really great formula (and smells delicious too!)

  2. I'm not a big YouTube watcher because it's so hard to find the time to sit through a video, but I do read a lot of blogs because I can quickly scan a review or article on my phone when I'm sitting in the car waiting for my kids to come out of school or sitting in the bathroom (don't judge me!). The last thing I bought because of a blogger was the Sephora Rouge Balm a few days ago after seeing Musings of a Muse rave about it. I really like it and will go back to buy more, they are only $12.50!

    1. I agree with you there...I also check out blogs from my phone a lot. And yes, Musings is one of my biggest enablers. She has dry skin like me so when she says she likes something skincare related (or foundation) I usually jump on it. :)

  3. I forgot the name of the Youtuber, but she was reviewing her Sephora haul and there, among other things, was the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette. I was debating about spending $$ on it, but her review sealed the deal. Now, I'm totally in love with it and Dim light is my fave.

  4. I'm a super cautious shopper so when I see something that a youtuber used, I always google it and check those reviews to see if it's good. I have a hard time trusting the video quality. I feel like it looks better than it does in real life On the other hand, I will say that I bought a lot of things you recommended on your blog! I recently bought the hard candy primer (the green bottle) and I love how it doesn't have any dimethicone or some sort of silicone in it. :)

    1. Thank you so much Giselle, that's so great to hear! :) I'm the same way...I always look up other reviews and try to get a general consensus before I buy a product.

  5. Had to snag the LA Girl Pro Concealer after seeing Shaaanxo rave about it. It just so happens I got it super cheap from that Ricky's voucher deal from awhile back :) It is one of my new faves!

    1. I also bought that concealer after seeing it on YouTube but I can't remember which vlogger it was that recommended it, because it was a few years ago. I recently found it at my local Kmart so I can stock up on it! :)

  6. Hahaha I watch YouTube every day while I get ready and let me tell you - I pretty much buy everything from YouTuber's suggestions. I also watched Dani's Lip Shaker review as well as Tati's from Glam Life Guru so I HAD to go and buy the shakers. I am on the fence though - I am not sure how much I love them yet.

    1. Haha Dani's video was very convincing wasn't it? So far, I like them but don't LOVE them. They feel really nice on your lips but because they're an oil, they sink in and disappear quickly instead of sitting on top like a gloss. I guess it's a good thing because they're moisturizing your lips but it makes you have to reapply like crazy. Also, the two shades I got don't have a lot of color. I'll have to keep playing with them!

  7. This youtuber I saw raved about Rimmel Exaggerate lipliners that double as lipstick. Once I purchased my first stick, Addiction, I soon followed with Eastend Snob. I lurve how natural/neutral matt-pretty they are and they're my favorite now. For the price, you can't beat it. Plus they are also dupes for some higher end lipstick.

  8. Oh my gosh, I'm almost about to cave in and buy Dani's favorite Lancome juicy shaker, the melon one haha! Her videos are so entertaining and I think her personality is part of the reason why it makes me want to buy the products she recommends. I've definitely bought products based on youtuber recommendations...herm...nivea post shave balm XD

    1. I agree...I love Dani's personality. She's so enthusiastic and seems down to earth. I bought the Meli Melon one because of how it looked on her. I'll do a review soon! :)

  9. Youtube made me buy 97% of my entire makeup collection! A year ago, I was just a watcher, with waaay less interest in makeup whose collection fit in a cosmetic bag (the only foundation I had was the $4 mousse pot haha). And because I started filming videos myself, my Alex draws are about to burst haha! xo

    1. Same here...I've always loved makeup but never had a huge collection until I worked at Sephora and we got bags of free stuff from the brands. I had so much stuff I couldn't possibly use it all. Then once I left that job my stash started to expire and over the next few years, I threw everything away, so I was back to an average-sized makeup collection...a few eyeshadows, a few lip products, etc. Once I started blogging, that all changed and I'm already in need of more Alex drawers! Sometimes it seems so excessive to me and it stresses me out seeing all this makeup I'm never going to get through on my own.

  10. Nikkietutorials is the reason I bought the Nivea post shave balm to use as a primer, and it definitely works!

    1. I STILL haven't tried that, but so many people say it works great! I guess I'm trying to get through the primers I already have, but once I do, it sounds like a good cheaper alternative! :)

  11. I bought the Mabelline Age Rewind concealer and I love it. YouTubers and blogs that explore drugstore are my new favorite. I have had so much high end makeup and many times it is so over rated and not worth the price tag.

    1. Oh my gosh that's my favorite drugstore concealer, its the best! You're so right, its amazing when you find a hidden gem at the drugstore that makes you question why you would even buy the high-end version. Its the whole reason I started this blog. :)

  12. Half of my makeup collection is "YouTube Made Me Buy It" between there and blogs (like yours!) my wallet seems to be slimmer haha I love it though! I've found some great products this way.

    1. Aww thanks Hannah! I'm glad you've found some things you like. :) Isn't it great that we now have YouTube (and blogs) to show us new products? Without them, I feel like I'd walk into Sephora or the drugstore and just stand there like, "where do I start?"

I love getting comments from you and hearing about your experiences with the products, whether you agree with me or not. It's the best way other readers can get the best information before they buy, so keep the comments coming! :)
