Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review

Pur Cosmetics recently sent me their new Hydra Fluid Water Serum Foundation ($39 at Ulta.com and Purcosmetics.com) and I couldn't be more excited to review it for you today because...spoiler alert...this is one of the best foundations I've tried in a long time. This Spring it's all about getting dewy, healthy-looking skin that looks natural and this foundation fits in perfectly with that idea. Let's take a look!
Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation Review

HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation contains Pur's Encapsulated Water Complex that delivers water from the Swiss Alps deep into your skin. It also contains Pur's Ceretin Complex, which helps to smooth, firm and lift the skin's appearance. Finally, Vitamin E helps to soothe the skin and provide antioxidant benefits.
The super lightweight formula creates a seamless, barely-there finish while still offering medium coverage. I have to admit I was skeptical about that since other serum foundations I've tried in the past offered very light coverage, but I was pleasantly surprised by the coverage this gave me.

HydraFluid has a really unique clear tip that dispenses the foundation one drop at a time, and I much prefer this method to a dropper because it's not nearly as messy. This foundation is very thin, like a serum, but it still contains a lot of pigment so you only need a couple of drops to cover your entire face. The tip allows you to slowly release one drop at a time, rather than having it run out everywhere. When I first saw the tube, I thought "this is so small, it's only going to last me a few weeks" but once I realized how little of this product you actually need to use, it made a lot more sense. I use three drops to cover my face and blend down my neck. Then I go back in and add a little bit more in areas where I need more coverage.

The texture of this foundation might be one of my favorites ever. It's not as thin as the L'oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder foundation (the one in the square glass bottle) but it's not as thick as a regular liquid formula. It has a super silky, barely there feel that really becomes one with your skin and feels like you have nothing on. It doesn't feel creamy like a traditional liquid foundation or oily like some serum foundations...it has a watery consistency that's really quite unique. For this reason, I think that all skin types will enjoy this whether you're oily or dry. My skin is like the Sahara and this foundation made my skin look dewy and plump without clinging to dry patches or sitting in fine lines. It just looks like skin! I also think that oily skin will appreciate how light and airy this feels...it hydrates without adding any oil or heaviness. It's a rare thing to find a foundation that will work will all skin types, but this one truly does.
Pur Cosmetics sent me all five shades of the HydraFluid to swatch for you, which was really nice of them. I wear the Light shade, which is the lightest option (there's no fair shade) and it's just a touch darker than my wintertime complexion but it still works just fine. These all seem to be very neutral-toned, not leaning too warm or too cool, which is great since there are only five shades and they need to be able to match well to everyone. I have really cool-toned skin and can't wear a lot of foundations because they're too yellow. This one isn't yellow or pink and it helps to tone down the pink in my skin.

HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation gave me really nice medium coverage (even though it feels water-thin and I was really expecting it to be more like a tinted moisturizer). In the photo below, I'm wearing only the HydraFluid foundation on my skin...I added a second layer under my eyes since I didn't really need concealer that day and just wanted some lighter coverage. A little bit of the redness on my nose still peeks through, as well as a few freckles, but overall it made my skin look really smooth and even. It gives a really fresh, flawless, natural result and I'm totally in love with it!
Wearing Pur Cosmetics HydraFluid Water Serum Foundation in Light
Overall, this is my ideal foundation for everyday wear. I still love thicker formulas for when I want to cover up everything but this does a great job at hiding the redness and discoloration that plagues me on most days and manages to look and feel like I'm wearing nothing. It's the perfect no-makeup makeup!

HydraFluid launches in Ulta and Kohls stores on February 7th (and is already available online at Ulta.com and Purcosmetics.com).

  1. I have super dry skin too, so I'm really looking forward to this! Not a lot of beauty bloggers seem to have dry skin, so your product reviews are super helpful to me. I'm going to have to try this product out :)

  2. This sounds so good! I actually work at Kohls in the beauty dept and we haven't gotten this in yet. But from what you're saying it's coming next week, I can't wait. I'll buy it with my discount if I find a good shade match.

  3. I received these as well and I love the texture, the finish, the packaging - everything except the shade range. Light is far too dark for me, so I'm struggling to wear them often enough to test =(. I wish they'd expand beyond just 5 shades because Pür really has something special here.

    1. Aww, that's too bad. I can get away with light, but it's definitely too dark for really fair skin. It really is an awesome product so maybe they'll expand the shade range if it becomes popular.

  4. I was considering the new Stila Aqua foundation but you make this sound so good! I plan to try a tester at Kohls next week when its there and see how it feels. I like being able to use my kohls cash on it.

    1. Yes, that's an awesome benefit of buying makeup at Kohls, haha! There are several new water-serum foundations launching this Spring, and this is the only one I've tried so far, but I love it!

    1. Aww, thanks Katherine! :) I'm sure they'll have testers when it hits Ulta and Kohls...wait until you feel the texture. It melts right into your skin and feels so nice.

  6. I don't buy a lot of products but I may very well get both the IT foundation and the bronzer since you mention that both are good on dry skin. I'm 61 and I hate heavy-feeling products, I don't need a ton of coverage just "a little something extra". I am presently loving Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue. You always look adorable!
