bh Cosmetics Gold Rush Eye & Cheek Palette Review

Today I'm bringing you a highly-requested review of the new bh Cosmetics Gold Rush Eye & Cheek Palette ($11). I've been getting emails and comments on social media from you guys asking me if this palette is worth picking up and I totally understand why! It's gorgeous to look at from the packaging to the color selection and the price is also amazing.

I actually grabbed this on Black Friday weekend as a bundle with the Gold Rush Lip Gloss Set...it was only $12 for both which was a total steal (I can review the lip gloss set in a separate post if you're interested!).

Let's take a look...

Packaging:
Gold Rush comes housed in a magnetic cardboard palette with a beautiful gold sequin effect printed on the front and back.
Inside there's a mirror, twelve eyeshadow shades, a highlighter, blush, and bronzer. The inside of the palette is also printed with a "gold dust" effect and when I first opened the palette, I thought one of the shades had shattered all over. Thankfully, it was just the printing on the package, haha!
Shade Selection:
The eyeshadow shades are a mix of matte and shimmer shades in warm neutral tones. I like that they included a good range of highlight, transition, and deeper shades (and at least one of each in the matte and shimmer finish).
The face products in the third row include a pale pink highlighter, a peachy blush, and a shimmery bronzer shade.
Formula:
Unfortunately, the formula was very hit or miss. The majority of the shades (mostly matte) in the top row were drier and very powdery. The pigmentation was just so-so and they didn't go on as vibrant as they look in the pan. They also blend away to nothing if you're using a brush on your eyes. The gold shimmer shade and the white pearly shimmer went on a little more pigmented and had more of a buttery feel but still had tons of crumbly fallout.
First Row of Eyeshadows
The second row of eyeshadows fared a little bit better...the three shimmery shades (second, third, and fourth) were buttery and nicely pigmented but the mattes had that dry powdery feel and really needed to be built up.
Second Row of Eyeshadows
The face products were also hit or miss. The pink highlight shade and the bronzer are really pretty and had a soft, buttery feel with good pigmentation. The peachy blush in the center had that drier formula and needed to be built up to show up on my fair skin.
Highlight, Blush, and Bronzer (third row)
Final Thoughts:
As much as I love the color selection in this palette (and the price!) this was a miss for me. Lately, it seems like this is par for the course when it comes to "holiday" palettes...they just aren't the same quality as the permanent, core products from a brand. I've recently reviewed several other bh Cosmetics palettes that I would prefer over this one because they had more consistent formulas and just performed better overall.

What do you think? Did you purchase this palette?

  1. I also bought this along with the lip glosses. I actually really like those and i am not much of a lip gloss person. The colors work well for me and the formula isn't overly sticky. I like that they have brushes instead of sponge applicators. The eyeshadows in the palette are okay. Nothing is a standout and a couple of them are really orange. They actually look a lot better when you put them over the smooth canvas primer.

    1. I agree the lip glosses are really nice! I haven't gotten a chance to review them yet but you're right, they're not sticky and the colors are pretty. :)

  2. I wonder if the silver palette is equally as disappointing? I've been loving BH Cosmetics lately (I was blown away by the warm marble palette) but I guess this means I can safely skip this!

    1. I loved the Marble Palettes too...actually there are a lot of BH Cosmetics products I've been loving lately. The Modern Neutrals palette, Supernova Palette, and Blushed Neutrals were all pretty awesome. I'm chalking this one up to being a holiday palette and for some reason they're never as good as the regular palettes. For example, I love Tarte eyeshadows but their holiday palettes weren't the same quality...same with Too Faced.

  3. Hi I'd just like to say thanks for reviewing all these bh cosmetics products, especially the eyeshadow palettes!! I bought the Foil Eyes palette a while ago and really liked it!

I wish more people would review bh products. It's pretty hard to find decent reviews of them and even moreso all within the one blog. I really like reading yours :) In fact your swatches of the Modern Neutrals and Warm Stone kinda persuaded me to buy them HAHA! I might comment under those posts sometime about my own experiences with them.

  4. My friend bought this palette for me as a Christmas present from Amazon. I agree that the matte shades can look very dry and don't transfer very well, but I really liked the shimmery gold, pink, and deep purplish one (not sure what that color is called lol). The bronze also looks really good but I don't really know how to use it. In fact, I haven't used about half of the shades yet because I'm not sure what to do with them, especially the yellow and orange XD

I love getting comments from you and hearing about your experiences with the products, whether you agree with me or not. It's the best way other readers can get the best information before they buy, so keep the comments coming! :)
