A few weeks ago, I purchased the Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection Palette in Neutral Nudes at Harmons for $6.99. It looked like a really cute mix of shimmers and mattes and I thought it was about time I tried something from Jesse's Girl. A lot of people rave about their eyeshadow primer which is next on my list, but they didn't have that in stock so I grabbed this instead. Drugstore eyeshadow palettes have been on the up and up lately so I figured it was worth a shot, especially at under $10. Let's take a look!
Brand Description: Who said neutral has to mean boring? Let your natural beauty show with the Jesse's Girl Back Stage Collection in "Natural Nudes". This palette of 10 natural nude shadows takes you from office-appropriate to simply seductive, all in one travel-friendly compact (5 inches by 3 inches).
Price/ Where to Buy: $6.99 at Harmon, Rite Aid, and on the Jesse's Girl website.
Quick Take: Save your money!
This palette comes packaged in a black plastic case with a see-through window on top (no mirror) and a dual-ended sponge tipped applicator. It consists of six shimmery shades on the top row and four mattes on the bottom. All of the pans are a nice size and the shades are rosy-toned neutrals.
I had high hopes for the formula of these eyeshadows because I've heard good things about their loose pigments. I dug into the shimmery shades first and they felt very soft and almost "fuzzy". They seemed to pick up easily with my finger but then they kind of stuck there and didn't apply smoothly to my skin. The shimmer in these shades is pretty chunky which causes a lot of fallout and once applied to your eyes, they flake off pretty quickly. They also did this after dipping my finger into the pan one time...the dreaded hard patch. I always make sure my fingers are totally dry before swatching and my skin has very little natural oils in it so this rarely happens to me, except with lower-quality palettes.
The matte shades on the bottom row were even worse. They were hard and dry and I had to work really hard to get them to pick up at all and they barely showed up on my skin. Here you can see the six shimmer shades starting at the top and then the four mattes on the bottom which are hard to see except for the last two.
The Bottom Line: Save your money on this one. The shades are pretty but they're either chunky and flaky or hard and dry. You can find similar rosy-toned shades in the new CoverGirl TruNaked Roses palette, which is $9.49 at drugstores (see my review of that palette here) and the quality is excellent.
Thanks for your always honest reviews. I remember when you bought this and posted it on Instagram, and it looked so good I was planning on buying it. Good thing I waited for your review!
ReplyDeleteWoah that's the worst drugstore palette I've seen in a while and I thought the Maybelline ones were bad.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I've tried Jesse's Girl products. I've never had luck with their eyeshadows but I LOVE their liquid liner.
ReplyDeleteGosh, glad I read this. Is there any way to get rid the hard patch once it happens?
ReplyDeleteI brought the same palette, I havent even tried oh my I guess I need to start looking for the receipt: (
ReplyDeleteThank you for saving me the hassle of returning! I'd been picking this up every time at Rite Aid but never pulled the trigger, glad I didn't now. Too many other similar palettes around now that are better than thier prices, clearly this isn't one of them.
ReplyDeleteI've never tried Jesse's Girl. I'll stay away from their eyeshadows.
